Kathleen's Story
Life
Took a trip to Colville just a few years ago and was astonished at how beautiful it was. I longed for the Willamette Valley so much when I was there, in high school, I guess I didn't fully appreciate the beauty. For those of you who knew me way back when  there have been a lot of changes. I left Jehovah's Witnesses and my husband of 20 years about 10 years ago and began pursuing my "real life." I have one son, age 26, who is a great son and an adventurer. I've been back in Oregon for the last approx. 20 years and love it. I worked at a number of papers, wrote, performed and published poetry, wrote a screenplay, etc. etc. I recently worked for a large daily, but after a coupl...Expand for more
e of years I decided I missed the smaller community too much to continue. I am now back in a smaller town (Stayton, Oregon) as the lead reporter and the happiest I've ever been.
Workplace
The Stayton Mail is my new home, and I love it. I love the town I cover, the city officials are great folks, my office is fabulous, sun streams through huge windows, the equipment is new, my camera is great, my workmates are great -- your workmates generally are great in newspaper. That's one of the reasons I'm still doing this even though the pay is lousy. I will soon be living right next door to the paper in a cute little upstairs apartment in an old victorian house (completely remodelled).
