Kathleen's Story

After High school I worked at the local A&W as a car hop for that summer. Then I landed a job as a long distance operator with Mountain Bell. I enjoyed that very much and would often volunteer to work with the Air Force Academy operators patching Mars calls all over the United States that were coming in from Vietnam. That lasted a year then I decided I wanted to try something new. I then started working as a secretary for the Small Business Assoc. with the Urban League of the Pikes Peak Region. That lasted until their funding ran out and was not renewed. I attended Elpaso Community College for a couple of semesters. Worked at Western Forge for two years starting in plating and working my way up to quality control inspector in the plastics division. I worked there for two years, then joined the Army. My assignments took me to Pesidio of San Fransico, Louisville, Kentucky, Germany Pirmasens and Nurenburg, Ft Carson, and Ft Ord, Ca. After getting out of the military in 1989 I came back to Colorado Springs and started working at Pikes Peak Mental Health Center, wearing many hats over the course of seventeen years. Transportation Manager, Vocational Counselor, and managing a Housing program for the homeless. I was laid off in December of last year. I was then enrolled in the VA Rehab program as a displaced worker. Yes, four years of education paid for and what ever I need to be successful in this endeavor. ing PPCC and am working towards a BA in Communications, and hope to get a Master's eventually in Speech Communica- tions. This is not easy for me now, going back to school. This is one of my regrets, not doing this when I was younger. I have two adult children, daughter, son, and no grandchildren. In my spare time I like to go to movies, read history and health books. I am interested in herbs and gardening and I like to cook and have friends over. If I had more money I would like to travel more. I like all music except RAP. I like going to different things like outdoor concerts and shopping, Community sponsored events. I have a strong faith in God and that is what has kept me going over the years. I have been an active church member where ever I have lived, and in Petersburg Germany was able to partcipate in starting a new church that was once a shoe factory. I enjoyed the class of 68 reunion this year and would like to see more people attend. I remember so many people as I look over the names on classmates, not only from 68, other years as well. Even though I can not contact each and every one I value anyone I knew during that time. I loved that time in my life and have very fond memories of many of you. It saddens me to hear when some one has died. I know that is something we all will face some day. It just makes thing more precious to me. I wish everyone happiness, health, and many blessings in the years to come.

So blessed to have had this wonderful man in my life. Uncle Cal your love of God, and unwavering faith, no matter the circumstances is what I will remember the most.
