Kathleen's Story

I let my membership here in Classmates expire which caused me to lose my story so here I go again.... Ha! My story is nothing fantastic but it's mine. I did not graduate with my class as I had gotten married and gave birth to my wonderful daughter. My husband was in the Marines and we ended up moving down to San Clemente. Needless to say, the marriage did not last and we divorced. It's all good though and things work out for a reason. My current husband and I have been married since 1987. I met Tom through my youngest brother. It was his nose I was so attracted to at first. Ha! Ha! I know....crazy but true. Tom and I will celebrate 26 yrs in September 2013.. My husband is a Tug Operator/Crew Chief and ties the Chevron Tankers up off El Segundo. Tom and I lived in Redondo Beach for years until 2010. We purchased his parents home (his childhood home) after Tom's mom passed away in 2010.. We actually live in the Wiseburn community which is part of the LA County strip (Unincorporated) We do use Hawthorne's zip code but that's it. We have a fairly large home (1857 sq ft) which we share with our dog Max, and two female cats....Trixie and Riley Girl. The girls have their own bedroom. They are quite spoiled. Max, our little Shih Tzu thinks he is the alpha dog. We let him think that!!! My daughter Tara and her family live in Lakewood, CA.. Brandi is 20 yrs old and Chris is 18 yrs old. Chris has a brain injury and is confined to a wheelchair. He's our guiding light!!! When Christopher was 3 mos old, he came down with Bacterial Meningitis. He went into cardiac arrest at the Naval Hosp in Virginia. Chris was on life support for about week until they finally took him off. He was not expected to live yet, he started breathing on his own. my daughter and son-in-laws love and devotion, Chris has been with us all these years. He can't walk, talk or say "I love you Mom" but he is a very special young man to us and we all love him! High school was tough for me. My story might be somewhat similar to yours and maybe not. My father whom I always respected no matter what had an addiction to alcohol. There were many days I dreaded going to school and putting on a "smiley" face but I did it. Sometimes it was difficult getting up in the morning after one of dad's raging meltdowns from the night before. Dad was not a nice drunk. We witnessed a lot of physical and verbal abuse. I decided to seek help as an adult and I am glad I did. It made me a much stronger person. Addiction is tough to watch and especially hard when it's your parents or one of them. There is so much help out there and I highly recommend to anyone to seek that help. Open up your heart and don't be afraid to talk it out. Both of our parents died in 1997 so I feel it is ok to talk about this today. The other Fawley siblings all attended West High except for my sister Barb. She went on to South High School - West High had just been built. I have always loved to write and I do it from my heart. In 2004, things just sort of fell apart for me. I ended up with some diagnosis' that changed my life and how I live each day. I suffer from chronic pain and several chronic illnesses. I take one day at a time - I do not look sick on the outside. I have started my own website/blog and not sure if I am allowed to post the url here. If you want to read it - please feel free to send me a short message and I will give you the url. It's still in the beginning stages but you will understand me a bit better once you read why I created the site etc.
