Kathleen's Story
After high school, I attended LSU/Baton Rouge for a year, then came home to LSUA. I married in 1966, had 2 children, and divorced after 5 years of marriage. I returned to school, obtained a BS in Accounting with a minor in Economics, and went to work for a CPA firm. After a year or so, I answered an ad in the Journal of Accountancy for overseas work, and wound up (after 18 months of interviews, background checks, and FBI interrogations of all my friends, family, and neighbors) a commissioned Foreign Service Officer for the United States Government.
I spent 21 years as a Controller for the United States Agency for International Development (the agency which spends your tax dollar that goes to Foreign Aid). A Controller is the US Government equivalent of a CFO, each post being a (slightly different) company. I served in Cameroon (West Africa), Sri Lanka (Asia), Chad (sub-Saharan Africa), the Dominican Republic (the Caribbean), and Uganda (sub-Saharan Africa). Although I loved my career, I burned out on the politics involved, and retired in 1998.

s, post-retirement, in the non-profit sector. I still do some consulting in this region. I then moved to Lexington, VA, to be closer to family (bought a house with my niece), and to enjoy the Blue Ridge scenery. In 2014, I began splitting my time between Lexington, VA, and Dallas, TX, where I live with my significant other.
My children, Steven and Lynne, have presented me with no direct grandchildren. Fortunately, I have a great-niece, age 16, in Lexington, and 2 courtesy grandchildren, ages 16 and 13, in Gainesville, who give me great joy. My sister, Mary Lee, died in 2012, and my daughter Lynne died in 2016. My son lives in Fredericksburg, VA, with his long-time significant other.
I continue to read extensively, play games online, do crosswords, and workout 6 days weekly. I also remain addicted to really bad creature features (think "Them" or "Creature from the Black Lagoon"), and HGTV, and "NCIS" (the original, not LA or NO).
I have embarked on my bucket list of places to visit (all in the USA - I did enough foreign travel during my career), and expect to pick up the pace on the list when my significant other retires in July, 2018.
