Kathleen's Story
I moved to Utah in 1971 to attend college at BYU and never left: raised 4 kids here, earned 3 degrees, did a ton of community theater, taught drama and English for 22 years, and I'm ready to retire, but I still love teaching. I currently work at a residential school for autistic adults. They have put up with a lot in their lives, and we try to help them make sense of the present and create hope for the future. (Few of us have much need for the past -- espcially living in it, right?) I have, however, traveled around the world: Ireland, Japan, Spain, France, Italy, England, Belgium, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland, and I'm not done.
I played Henry Winkler's wife in a tv movie, that also starred Rick Schroeder and Freddie Prinze, Jr.
I dated Orson Scott Card in college. (I'm not kidding).
Two of my kids own their own businesses and make way more money than I do.
I have four amazing and adorable granddaughters. My husband and I have 14 grandchildren between us, plus two that have died.
I recently started an online business: FudginGreat.com -- a line of made-to-order fudge that we ship anywhere. It's my passion these days, but I've been making fudge and tweaking recipes since I was 15.
If you know a literary agent, I'm looking to sell the two non-fiction books I'm currently writing, "Creating Sisters" and "From Stunt Wife to Leading Lady."
Here comes the random stuff. I just filled in the blanks on some of the Story Wizard:
I always wanted to be a opera singer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a reasonable idea. As it turns out, they were right.
Too bad they didn't encourage me to do it -- I had the voice back then.
Wildest thing I ever did in school was work in the office on the switchboard and answer calls using my Lily Tomlin (Ernestine) voice. Daily.
I learned what unconditional love was from my mother. I learned how it felt to give it by watching my brother John suffer; but my children taught me to embrace it and live it. To this day my children are perfect in my eyes, and I can never stop loving them enough to show them what that means. That's probably why they invite me over to watch NFL games at their houses. We enjoy spending time together. FOOTBALL is our family passion: college, Pop Warner, NFL -- we love it all. The more the better. Go B...Expand for more
roncos! Go BYU Cougars! Go Ben R and Brett F!
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Steve Hubbard, because he was like a brother for 10 years, and I loved his mother, Berna.
That I was a virgin until I was 19!
Sheila Morton Eaton is my oldest friend. We met in 3rd grade when she moved into our neighborhood mid-year. She had just broken her arm and was wearing a cast, so I was assigned to be her special helper in class. We have been special helpers to one another ever since (with a few decades off for bad behavior a.k.a. marriages). I love you, Sheila. You're my little sister, girl.
In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by learning to live in an RV and greet people at WalMart. (I wish I were kidding.)
If I had one do-over, I would stay home with my kids until the last one turned 18. Careers are nonsense when you have four wonderful children. Yeah, THAT I would do over.
Trophies? I won two national speech contests in my first career. My drama students have won numerous acting awards, but my most memorable was winning the 1st Place Shakespearean Acting Team trophy in about 1993. More than one of my students is now making their living on stage.
My first crush was David Willoughby, 7th grade. I wonder where he is today. He was a funny kid.
My current age is 57. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be grey haired, sexless, and old. I was so completely misinformed.
If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my kids, then spend the rest on travel, an Escalade and a load of camel dung to put on my father's grave since he died a millionaire and left me and my brothers squat. No joke -- the dude was evil. (And you're thinking, "Now THERE's the Kathi Jimison I remember" -- Right?)
Mr. Silvis was a stud. Sue Chock and I loved his classes and his butt.
Finally, I am married to Mark Elwood Allred whose family sprang from Burley, Idaho. The Allreds were members of the original Mormon Pioneers who walked across the plains and settled the Mountain West. Mark is my hero -- he can do anything from sing like Steven Tyler to rebuilding a transmission and saving us $2000 by doing so. He puts up with my bad habits, forgives me when I'm cranky, and loves me like I've never been loved before! Thanks, God, for sending Mark to me.
