Kathleen's Story
Hi, everyone! How does one capsulize nearly fifty years of information in one little bio? I guess I'll give you the basics.
Education: proud drop-out from Southern Illinois University after two years.
Marriage: Tried it once. Once was more than enough!
Children: Sadly, none.
Career: Chicago Police Officer for 24 years. Retired in June 2005.
Personal Goals: I want to live long enough to exhaust my contribution to the Pension Fund and receive at least as many pension checks courtesy of the City of Chicago as I received courtesy of me!
Favorite Memory of The Imaculata: Candlelighting Ceremony at Christmastime.
Favorite Teacher at "Mac": Sister Frederick Mary
(she's still in the convent!!!)
Now I am working on my travel schedule. This past Spring I went east and south and visited my former Spanish teacher, Silvia Carrera de Marton and her husband Fred. They live in suburban Pittsburgh, PA after living overseas for many years with Fred's work as an Project Manager/Electrical Engineer took them around the world to such places as Brazil, Mexico, Germany, China, and Singapore.
Before Fred retired from Westinghouse they went back to Pennsylvania to live again.
After visiting Silvia and Fred I went to Maryland where I met Janet O'Brien Todd and her family for dinner and we regaled her husb...Expand for more
and, Bill, and daughter, Rachel, with tales from our days at "Mac". Her daughter was goggle-eyed at how strict the nuns were with us.
It was great fun to catch up with Silvia and Janet after so many years and it was terrific being able to pick up the relationships so easily after so long.
It is my hope that during my travels I will be able to locate more of our classmates who live out of state and travel back in time for a bit.
The most recent change in my life is that I moved into the apartment above my Mom's bungalow. It did more for my peace of mind than anything else. Mom is now 87 and my brother, Kevin, who has Cerebral Palsy is now 60 years old and I want to be near them should anything arise with either or both of them. I'm happy to be here as I can keep an eye on things and nudge Mom toward new doctors and such.
When I run my errands, I take Kevin and/or Mom with me as it is good get each of them out of each other's hair once in a while. He is such a good guy. A real gentleman. He always removes his hat indoors, offers his seat to ladies and is just a good man, in general. Mom and Dad (rest his soul) did a very good job with him.
This is the beginning of the latest chapter of my life and it's a good one. Now, if I could just get rid of all this arthritis, Life would be nearly perfect!!! LOL
