Kathryn's Story

Well, let's see...my story, or my life seems a little dull comparitively to most of you. I worked for the Arvin school district for a couple of years after high school as an aid. I married at the age of 20 and moved to Tulare County, Lindsay to be exact. 40 years later I am still in Lindsay, but am single and living with my daughter and her family. I've worked in my current position as receptionist/clerk for LoBue Bros. Packing for 20 years and love it. I really enjoy the people. I have two children, Kevin Poyner and Cindy Poyner Montejano. Kevin is living in Paso Robles and working as Supervisory Superintendant of Hot Shot Crew 1 on the Las Padres National Forest. I'm very proud of him and the work that he does. He joined the Forest Service with the plan of being Captain of his own station by the time he was 30 and did it by 28. Cindy is a stay at home mom with 4 children, Madison (10), Alexandra or Alex as we call her (7), Derek (4) and Hayden (3). She and her husband Jose (very bravely I thought:-) ) invited me to live with them when my mom passed away in 2010. (I had moved in with mom temporarily? when my husband and I split up in 1998) She was great and we became more like best friends through the years...although she could still make me feel like I was in high school if I was extremely late coming home from a date...even in my 40's :-) I miss her alot. I have 6 grandchildren, as Kevin has two boys, Kenneth (17), Kyle (14), and they are the light of my life. The things I enjoy doing are: reading...will read most anything but like mysteries best, taking pictures...favorite past time is driving up into the Sequoias and taking my camera...spend the whole day taking pics of nature. My daughter keeps asking me just how many pictures of trees and rocks does a person need? Love old barns and bridges as well:-) I like to check out Thrift Stores and the like everywhere I go. You never know what treasure you'll find. I take 1 to 2 trips a year with my sister Betty and Aunt Alice. Just a week to get away and play. This year we are going to The Grand Canyon and then on to Laughlin, Nevada. (I also love the slots :-() I haven't done much traveling out of state...have been to Florida to visit my brother...New York state to visit family, Utah quite often to visit sister Donna, but not much more than that. One of our get away and play trips next year is going to Arkansas. My sister Jackie lives there as well as one o...Expand for more
f my favorite aunts. Jackie says that it is beautiful so I'm of course looking forward to plenty of picture ops.:-) UPDATE 5/16/16 I am still living with my daughter and her family (they haven't kicked me out yet:-)) She is working as a CNA full time so am called upon to child sit often.. I am also still working at LoBue Bros., Inc...now 23 years. I'm thinking strongly about retiring at 66, so I'll haves to hang in there three more years. I lost my son to suicide in October of last year and am having a really hard time with that, but have a lot of friends who have been great. A good support system is really needed at a time like this, and I have that. I miss him so much. I am going to be in Arkansas in August of all months! It will be my mom's sisters' 80th birthday and we are going to make it an Andrus family reunion as well. I am hoping that all my sibs will be able to make it. I don't know it you all remember me well enough to know that I have 5 sisters and 1 brother, all younger than myself. It will be nice to be able to get together for a happy occasion. I thought I was doing all right in the aging department until I went into a local Wendy's the other day and was ordering something to drink. The little clerk looked at me and said (and I quote) "Not to be mean or anything, but we do offer a senior drink. " I don't know about the rest of you, but I think that WAS a little mean:-) I told her that no, I would like to have the full size drink, Thank you very much! No, but actually looking at some of your pictures, I can't believe how little some of you have changed!. You all look great. I will write more after my trip to Arkansas..if I haven't totally melted away. I hate to sweat:-) Aug. 7 2017 Well, things are changing for me this year. I am moving out of my daughter's home into an apartment of my own. Believe it or not this will be the first time that I have lived alone! Part of me is very excited about that, while the other part will miss the LOUDNESS :-) and confusion of living in a house full of children. The kids are all getting older and they need more private space. Another big change for me is that the company that I have worked for the last 24 years is selling (in escrow) and I may be without a job soon...so big decisions coming up. Retirement or new job? I hope to be kept on with the new company for at least one more year, as I planned to retire at 65 anyway. I guess I wait and see>
