Kathryn's Story
I left Canton after just one semester at KSU/Stark. I've lived in Virginia (not long); Corpus Christi, Dallas and Denton, Texas; southern California (my fave; 18 years); Las Vegas and Henderson, NV; and the Republica de Panamá.
I retired in Dec 2014; my husband retired in December 2015. We immediately left that USA and moved to Panamá where we obtained permanent resident status. Finding that, for us, the negatives of life in a lesser developed country out-weighed the positives, we moved back to the States 13 months later.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from California State University in Long Beach. I was an internal auditor and earned the professional designations of Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner, both of which have lapsed since my retirement.
I am childless by choice and have been happily married to this husband (#3) since 1991. My first husband was Dan Ebie from Hoover High School; then I married Richard Adam who I met when I was working for Xerox Corporation in Dallas.
Have reconnected with a few classmates via FB but would LOVE to find Jean McCune.
I returned to Panamá in August of 2018 for a three-week vacation. Fellow Eagle Joni Triner Gates joined me for two of those three weeks. Get her to show you photos of her holding a sloth or howler monkeys.
I am a published author, having written "Retire Abroad? Think Real Hard!" which is available from Amazon.com. I keep busy editing and marketing my husband's novels, the Max Springer series of books which are available only from Amazon at this time. If you are looking for a new series of books, check out "Butcher of Chamé" and "Enemies of My Fathers" by D. Wayne Bird. "Facing My Demons" is coming soon.
I've been fortunate enough to have seen some of the world. Not as much as I would have liked, but way more than I would have imagined when growing up. During my senior year of h...Expand for more
igh school, I spent a week in London and Amsterdam with other DECA students from around the State of Ohio.
I've vacationed in Mazatlan, Mexico (where I parasailed) and Singapore (where we took a tailor to Small Claims Tribunal and had Singapore Slings at Raffles).
I've visited with friends in Germany. I spent one unscheduled night in Paris, but that's a story for cocktails.
I've been to the Caribbean four times. (I enjoyed the dolphin experience on Roatan. I swam with sharks and sting rings ... somewhere.)
I've vacationed in Colombia where we spent four nights in Cartegena, four nights in Medellin and four nights in Bogata. LOVE Colombia! Brought back a small "bus to Cartegena" as well as jewelry for which Colombia is known.
I've now vacationed in Panamá three times and lived there for 13 months.
I've been to French Polynesia where I snorkled in kelp beds.
I've circled Easter Island but, due to weather conditions, was not able to go ashore.
I saw a smidge of Lima, Peru.
We anchored off of Pitcairn Island and had residents come aboard and talk about their lives and lifestyle.
Domestically, I've been to the Grand Canyon; went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans and was able to attend private events as well as a private ball; I spent my 30th birthday in Hawaii; have vacationed in South Carolina, Florida, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington DC.
I used to own a 27' foot sloop which we kept in King Harbor in Redondo Beach, CA. The sailboat allowed us to visit the Channel Islands. I still vacation in California frequently. At one time, I drove my own motorcycle (a Suzuki Savage, 650 cc) around southern California. I've been in a hot air balloon and private planes. I've had a couple of jobs that allowed me to travel to various US cities either to conduct audits or for profesional training conferences.
I've had a fun and good life. I hope that life has been kind to you, as well.
Vaya con Dios,
Kathryn
