Kathryn's Story
As many know, after marrying waaay too early I dropped out of SWD when my child-husband entered Air Force & stationed in Chicago, then Albany GA. I was determined to finish HS, tried to enroll in Albany, they didn't allow military dependents (which was against civil rights, but what did I know?). I finished Sr. yr through private school, then gave birth to 1st child at 17. Life was tough, then I "came out of my stuper" then entered college, completed Bachelors' and later a Masters from UGA. Recently retired from UGA, Carl Vinson Institute, now train DFCS child welfare caseworkers under GSU part time and enjoy every aspect of life. I soon hope to complete and publish my first novel - a collection of touching stories about ...Expand for more
fascinating people who choose to care for those who are unable to care for themselves.
Yep... a true blue "died in the wool" social worker... from age 4 and since.
So, why am I allowed to be included in the SWD graduating class? I guess because old friends like Doug Stacks decided not to "knit pick" and got me included many years ago after meeting up with me in Clayton County where I was doing social work... or.. maybe since I did finish in '60 and had no other school or group of friends to call my own.
Thanks to so many of you for always making me feel like I belonged!!! I love ya and remember everyone.. but might forget your name.
