Kathryn's Story
after getting degrees from fort hays (ba '77) and univ of iowa (phd '82) in sociology, i've been at southern illinois university at carbondale il since 1982. i'm a professor of sociology and women's studies. i was diagnosed with MS in 1992 and gave up playing horn in the siuc symphony the next year. after 8-10 years of dealing with symptoms (now somewhat benign), i started traveling to bangladesh for research and activism with women workers and globalization issues. since 2005, i've been executive director of training program--nari jibon (women's lives) project-- for girls-women who can learn computers, english, tailoring, and bangla. you can read more about the school and nari jibon project through...Expand for more

unlike most of my classmates who like dogs, i have my second set of cats, two balinese siblings--durga and madhu.
my folks have been in casper,wy since the early 1980s and now retired and roaming the world when they are not volunteering. for those of you who still remember english teacher patricia s. ward's 'words of the day' or not, mom would love to hear from you. please contact me for her email.
videographer brother bill's daughter, becca, just won two bronze medals in saber fencing at the olympics (and just started at duke) and his son is working in portland also his dad's home base.
