Kathryn's Story
Life
Greetings from southern California: Thought I would post a thumbnail sketch of my life for those of you who might be interested. After HS I attended 1 year at SJCC, majoring in journalism. I entered the Navy in 57, went to Md for boot camp, Jacksonville, Fla. for "P" school, and ended up on a small base in Fla, as my primary duty station. I worked on the base newspaper and eventually attended Journalism School in the Great Lakes. I returned to Fla, met my 1st husband, transferred to San Diego, got married, and discharged. We lived at NAS Lemoore for awhile, I had two beautiful children, got divorced, and moved to SD. I worked in sales for awhile, then microfilming. I continued my education, eventually getting my BS degree at SDSU in Criminal Justice Administration. I began working for the county in the Honor Camp system, as a Correctional Officer. There I met my 2nd husband, who was a policeman. Short lived relationship. Politics emerged. the camps became part of the ...Expand for more
Probation Department and my title changed to Deputy Probation Officer. Eventually, I moved out of the camps and into supervision and had a caseload of narcotic users! Great way to "make your bones"! Through the years, I have worked almost exclusively with adults. In 82 I went on a Criminal Justice tour to Europe and met my present husband. He was a Social Worker at the prison in Amsterdam. In 85 we were married, I left the department, and went to Holland to live. In 87 I finally decided that Californians visit snow, we don't live in it! So came home, got my job back, John followed, and here we are. I have 4 grandchildren, 2 from each of my children. John's son just gave us a beautiful little girl, so the combined families are growing. I'm now the Court Officer for our area and anticipate 5 more years. Few! More then a sketch. ,
Tis the season once more. We are spending Christmas and New Year in England this year. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.
