Kathy's Story

Life The summer after 10th grade my family moved from Brandon to Panama City, FL and I graduated with class of '75, Rutherford High School. After graduation I attended Gulf Coast Community College and worked part-time at the Cheese Barn restaurant in historic downtown PC. In the fall of '78 I married Tony Thomas, a transplant from south Florida. After a couple years in PC, we moved to Kissimmee and went to work for Morrison-Knudsen on the EPCOT Center construction project. For the next many years we continued to follow construction work, doing two stints in NY state and one in Washington state. Along the way we had three wonderful children - Sarah ('85), Amy ('88) and Rachel Dakotah ('90). Sarah's arrival marked a major change in my life as I became a stay-at-home mom for the next nine years. In the fall of '94 we relocated our family to Winter Springs, FL (north of Orlando) and I went back into the workforce. In early '07 I got divorced and then moved to Tampa in the Fall of '08 for work. These days life is good, better than it's been in a LONG time. I've made some great new friends and I'm having more fun than I ever thought possible! After all, 50 is the new 30... Contact me at KathyBoyd75(atsign)gmail.com School My best friends in middle and high school were Jan McNair and Neta Sumner (Brandon, FL). At Horace Mann Jr. High I remember studying the works of Homer, getting interested in poetry, and trying to memorize the Periodic Table for Science class. This was during the early years of forced integration and we were on split sessions to accommodate the additional students. I took...Expand for more
French class in the 10th grade (BHS), and I remember the lunch lines being ridiculously long, but who ate anyway??? My family moved to Panama City after 10th grade and I attended Rutherford High School, graduating with class of '75. I became close friends with Sue Hathaway & Lynn Barbour. I was in choir, a "Rammette" (step team), and a member of Beta club. Sadly, I haven't done a good job of keeping in touch with anyone from my past over these many years, but I have recently rekindled friendships with several people I knew in school. "Friends are Friends Forever"... College Attended Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, FL and then picked up a few additional credits at Okaloosa-Walton Community College. Dropped out just short of getting a degree with a 3.9 GPA. Workplace I waited tables and did some office work in PC while attending GCCC and then we moved to Kissimee in late 1980. There I took an office job with Morrison-Knudsen Construction Company when EPCOT Center was under construction. In '84 I became a stay at home mom, by far the toughest and most rewarding of the many jobs I've had. Re-entered the job market in '93 with an office position at the Walton County Regional Hospital in DeFuniak Springs. Moved to Winter Springs in '95 to take a job with Balfour Beatty Construction as Project Accountant for the Winter Springs High School construction project. When that project completed, I took a position with Clark Construction Company. I've worked for the company for more than 11 years now, curently stationed in Tampa on the MacDill Air Force Base Military Housing project.
