Kathy's Story
Life
The day after Sequoyah's graduation, my family moved from Atlanta to Charlotte, NC, and a few months later I started Harding University in Searcy, Ark., as a French and journalism major. After my 1973 Harding graduation, I worked as a reporter for and then city editor of the Searcy Daily Citizen.
Married Don Shores in 1973. M.A. in journalism at Murray (Ky.) State University in 1977. Copy editor of Journal of Nutrition, an international peer-reviewed monthly, at University of Florida while Don got Ph.D. Three children born in '78, '81 and '83. I worked as copy editor for five business-to-business magazines at Intertec Publishing '98-'01.
I've taught as an adjunct professor of journalism, public relations, and public speaking at Pepperdine University, Malibu, Calif., 1982-present. I love teaching undergraduate students to write professionally and speak effectively in public, and hanging out with my husband. We have had an intermittently empty nest: daught...Expand for more
ers graduated from Cal State-Channel Islands, Pepperdine and Princeton Universities, and Humboldt. I have a great interest in exercise, hiking, nutrition, alternative medicine, etc.
September 2008: Our youngest, Holly, and her 85-pound dog Java moved to Seattle to start a two-yearlong stint with Americorps. She'll be working on conservation and sustainable living projects
Our middle daughter, Robyn, earned two master's degrees from Princeton (N.J.) Theological in divinity and social work. She and James were married in Malibu in July '07. After a honeymoon in Greece and Scotland, they returned to Princeton, where he is in the third year of his doctoral program. Robyn is a therapist in Princeton.
Our oldest, April, who married Marc in November 2008, teaches a special ed kindergarten class in Agoura Hills, CA. She lives in Malibu with her husband, Marc, who recruits internationally for Pepperdine U.'s graduate school of business, teaches yoga and surfs.
