Kathy's Story

Life I am single but waiting for the right christian man to come along. I don't have any children. I dont want to have children but I fell that this is not the time. My family teases me all the time that I may be like Sarah and have a mid-life baby. But that OK too, if that is how God sees fit to do it then I will have to deal with it. I may consider adopting if I have not had a child by 40. That is two years from now. Update, 40 still single and no children. I still have Poochie May Carroll. That is my baby. Yes, I know the name is country but it is cute. She is spoiled and loves to do tricks. Eight years ago, I brought a detached house in Windsor Hill area with my sister. It is just like having an apartment. She occupy the two bedrooms and full bath upstairs and I occupy the 2 bedrooms and full-bath downstairs. We share the common areas of the house. It works out really well. It has 2 car garage and a parking landen that holds 10 cars. It a very spacious. This house is a added plus because it is 5 minutes away from my parents. Beings that I do not like to cook all the time. College Hey warriors, after graduating, I attended Morgan State University for a year and a half. I later transferred to Coppin State College to soar with the eagles. In 1994, I received my Bachelor of Science (BS) in Applied Psychology with a concentration in Alcohol and Substance Abuse. I also have a minor in Special Education. After graduation, I enrolled back at Coppin for my master's degree (M.Ed.) in Vocational Rehabilitation. I graduated in 1996 with my M.Ed. My goal after graduation was to attend American University in D.C. to obtain my P...Expand for more
h.D. But both my parents got sick and my siblings and I had to care for them. They're doing fine now. I am still going to pursue my Ph.D. at Morgan or Coppin, if they develop a program. Workplace Minimum wage after graduation was peanuts. My first job after graduation was at G.C. Murphy making $3.35 an hour. This job help me to put myself thru college believe it or not. I also cared for a set of twins, cashiered at Stop, Shop and Save, and did security at then the Harbor Park Movie Theater and Parking Garage while in college. While working in Baltimore Public School System as a Teacher Assistance, I was mentoring at risk youth for Friends Research Institute, Inc. making $3.00 a day for car fare to the program and which later turned into part-time job. While working for Friends, I obtain a job in Baltimore County in a homeless shelter. After working for the shelter for two years and working for Friends part-time. I later obtained a full-time position as a case management supervisor at Friends. I stayed there for 10 years until the grant closed. Now I am working for the YWCA Druid Heights Transitional Housing Program as a Family Support Specialist. I have been here for 18 months. I also tutor students up to the 8th grade, sell Avon, and assist with writing grants. I have alot on my plate but I manage to do them all. In August of 2007, I was offered a job at DRU/Mondawmin Healthy Families as a Clinical Supervisor. This is a home visiting program for pregnant women. We have Family Support Workers that go into the home and assist the mothers prenatally and until the child reach age 5. I am still tutoring and assisting with grant.
