Kathy's Story

Will be married to Steve for 29 years in August. Have been a Registered Nurse for 29 years. Still work at Southwestern Community Action Council with the elderly and disabled program. I love my clients. They are all like grandparents to me. We have a good relationship and I have alot of restpect for them. I miss hospital nursing though. The knees just cant handle all the walking. My oldest daughter is a RN in the Neuro-Trauma ICU at St Marys. She has a six month old son that we are crazy about. Christopher is the super star in all of our lives. He is Mawmaws special little man. My youngest daughter Ashlee is suffering through Micro Biology in hopes of getting into the nursing profession. She is also trying to get over an ass hole of a boyfriend who has treated her like a door mat for years. Thank God, she has finally seen the light where he is concerned. I just want to see her happy again. And I hope that he can see what a fool he has been and leaves her alone. Looking forward to a vacation to the beach soon. Would love to hear from some of my friends. Life is not the same anymore now that Mom and Dad are gone. But, you have to keep plugging along, and I love this Grandma thing. Look forward to more. Little Chris is a blessing. Mom and Dad would be so proud of him. More later. I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. sometimes I just get in the car and drive out through the country and listen to music. Sometimes I like to sit on the front porch and rock in the rocking chairs and listen to the wind chimes. I do have a hero. My sister, Sheree. She has been through so much and really never had a life. She was slow in school and the kids gave her a rough way to go. She started having seizures when she was 19. Then when she was 32, she blacked out, fell in the bathroom, hit her head, had a subdural hematoma, stroke. Now she cannot talk or move, has a feeding tube and catheter. She had to have a kidney removed because of a kidney stone that she could not pass. She has just been through so much and physically, she is stronger than any of us. She is ...Expand for more
an angel, and I am sure Mom and Dad watch over her.Sports? Definitely, the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are the best. No comparison to the rest of the team. Also, the Pittsburgh Penguins. And , I am sorry folks, Marshall does not compare to WVU. They rock. There is nothing like Morgantown and Mountaineer Field on Gameday. Marshall is so so boring. My biggest surprise in life? Not marrying my high school sweetheart. But you know it turned out ok. Steve is good to me. We have been through a lot and he is always there for me. He works hard and has always found a way for us to get what we want and have a decent life. With my kids, I have learned that they have to make their own mistakes and just be there to pick up the pieces. You cant fix it for them no matter how much you want to. I have also learned to trust them and believe they know what they are doing. If I won $100 million, I'd give part of it to elderly, mentally retarded and homeless people, then spend the rest on family , a cabin in the Smokies and place at the beach. To be truly happy, I would be in a Cabin in the Smokies, just living and being with my kids, grandkids and family, with Mom and Dad and the rest. My current age is 53. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely right. I hope my friends remember me as fun to be around, someone they could trust and always want to be friends. My oldest friend? Definitely My Mom. How did we meet? Well, that is obvious. I had so much respect for her and I learned so much from her. She always wondered what she was put on this earth for, because she had a horrible childhood and actually a bad life till she met and married my Dad. But, she was put here to be a Mom and she was the best. I miss her every minute of every day, and I will never get over losing her. She was the Best. I love you Mom. My youngest Daughter, Ashlee just got accepted to nursing school and will start at St. Marys in Jan. keeping up with a family tradition. She has a new guy in her life. David is really good to her and finally she knows and realizes all guys are not jerks. It is about time. I told her there were a few good guys left out there.
