Kathy's Story

There is way too much to get into. I have no idea where to start. I worked at jobs from waitressing, to management, working with exotic animals (in management there too); did some commercials, educational videos for China on wildlife; some tv and cable shows; ran away and joined the circus when I was 35. Got bored and came back home. Worked at the Wildlife Park again for 5 more years. Tended bar at a Biker Bar for awhile and went back to school to get certified in Animal Health. Worked at Wright Patt Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio in their animal research department and ended up with a lung disease from the Navy pigeons (finally managing it well). Ran a company in the DFW, Texas area that sold aircraft parts. After my husband died of cancer, I left that job and took some time to myself. Now I work in the Bid Department for a traffic safety company as the Bid Coordinator. My department bids road construction jobs here in Texas and a few other states. We are also have a fabrication facility so we make all of our own traffic signs, small and large ones. Over the years I have added to my duties and have a larger customer base as well as selling more products than when I first started working here. Love to keep on learning and now train others so that we all have the knowledge needed to continue to build our department as the specifications are always changing. I am now a Grandma with two beautiful granddaughters. Of course, my daughter is beautiful too. Getting back out and enjoying life once again after years of taking care of my late husband for the 3 years he battled cancer. There is more, but I will save some for later. My hero was my Grandma Ruth. She taught me more than anyone ever did. Loved her dearly and really miss her... Sports..Go Cowboys and Mavs!!! Love football. No pets now. Reading. Lots of other things, hanging with my friends. My best friends are in a local band here and always draw a large crowd. So I try to see them whenever they are playing. My son-in-law is also in a band now and I try to see them as often as possible also. Love, love and more love! If I won $100 million, I'd give half of it to my daughter, Denise, then spend the rest on a private island, helicopter and cute cabana boy. My current age is 59. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old and not wanting to get out and do anything. I was so completely wrong. I like the job that I have. One thing though, if I knew what I do now, I would have gone to school to be a Crimimal Pathologist. I love doing lab work and have done plenty of necropsies on all types of animals. I am a vet tech, certified in Animal Health, plus a Reiki Energy Healer, Master and Teacher... My best friend would tell you I'm a wild and crazy woman, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as someone who works hard, but always has time to get into some kind of trouble. Well, I normally dress in jeans, boots and it depends on what day of the week what kind of shirt I wear. Love wearing my boots, but have had to let them take a break for most of the year now. r is way to hot and not out riding motorcycles as much anymore. I share my home with myself, which I find wonderful. Watching Grandma tying chickens by their feet and cutting off their heads...You ask! She got me on the path of working with animals. Going to Austin June 8th thru the 11th. To the ROT Rally. That would be the Republic of Texas Rally. Camping at the fairgrounds. Got to go to Sturgis a couple of years ago. I have no intention of slowing down. Everyone thinks that I am about 10 years younger than I really am and are amazed when I tell them my true age. I tell them that comes from Mom's side of the family....Plus she always said that I had to get older, never said that I had to grown up!! Well, time for an update. 63 years old and still age means nothing to me. When I look in the mirror, I laugh to see the person looking back at me. Hair is longer again and curly now. Sometimes I feel like I belong back in the days of the Hippies! Over the years I have become more aware of who I am and that I refuse to change because I have added on a few more years. I am a Great-grandma now. I have a great-granddaughter and great-grandson, Jordyn and Jayden. Crazy children that make my heart sing. Thinking of moving back to Ohio next year. Trying to decide whether to semi-retire and move back to the Dayton area or to the East Palestine area. Lots of family there, brothers and sisters. My daughter travels a lot for her job, the grandkids are grown and the oldest has two children of her own. The youngest granddaughter graduates this year. So I don't spend as much time with them as I used to. I try to get back home at least once a year, but feeling the pull for it to be permanent. Miss the season changes too. Here we have summer and somewhat of a winter. Seems like there is no spring or fall anymore. And not much winter the last few years. A few days of ice and that is all. Going on a cruise with my sister, Patti in April of 2016. Finally talked her into going to Mexico with me. I love Mexico and used to go twice a year, but have not been since my husband died. So we are really looking forward to our trip and have scheduled some wonderful excursions. Going to Belize, Isla Roatan (Mahogany Bay), and Cozumel. I love the beaches there and would live there if I could. I usually go to a private resort and it is always so hard to leave to come home. But curious to see what the next year brings. Looking to making a lot of changes and hoping to make the right choices. Even if I end up in Dayton, I will still be close enough to my family in the East Palestine/Beaver Falls area that I can make time to be there as much as I want. Just waiting to see how which plan ends up being the best for me. I have already told the people that I work with that I am planning on leaving next year, but they keep trying to sweeten the pot to keep me from leaving. Just upped my vacation days and a few other perks. I am the only woman in my department, kind of like it that way. But I feel like the time is right for a change. Will keep you updated! Have a happy Circus!!
