Kathy Keena:  

After I graduated from high school in Wyoming, I moved to Ann Arbor to begin my studies at the University of Michigan. While there, I worked at a child development center as a researcher to pay for all of my own college. My future husband, Bill, and I met through a mutual friend in 1970, while Bill was pursuing his PhD in Linguistics. After I completed my BA with a double major in American Government and Economics and a minor in Spanish Language and Literature, we were married in Ann Arbor. After our 3 children were born in Michigan, Bill and I moved to South Carolina with our young family to enjoy the warmer climate and outstanding job market. Bill worked for a division of Volvo until he retired at age 57. In the meantime, I completed my studies and coursework for my PhD in Economics. I continued working as an Advanced Placement (AP) American Government and Politics teacher as well as an AP Macroeconomics instructor while teaching in an International Baccalaureate (IB) public high school. After raising our beautiful family, and after more than 30 years as a teacher, I retired from public school teaching.
