Kathy's Story
Life
I have been living in the Bay Area since 1966. I am married and have been for 44 years. We recently moved to Brentwood, Ca and are enjoying our country life. I graduated from Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing in 1969, received my BSN and after working at Children's Hospital and Research Center at Oakland for 30 years, I moved on to the Comprehensive Cancer Center in Berkeley and loved it. After 6 years at the CCC I retired, spending 44 years in the nursing profession. I have 2 wonderful grown daughters, a great son-in-law a grandson and granddaughter. I helped to organize the most recent 50th MHS reunion in June 2014 in Ceres. We had a great time and look forward to getting together again soon. again at the. Workplace
Nursing has evolved over the past 40 years that I have been working in it. Upon graduation, I worked in the Emergency Department for 17 years, as a staff nurse and then an Assistant Head Nurse in the department. For the next 8 years I was the AHN for the Ambulatory Services department until 1995 when I began working as a Nurse Clinician in the Advice Line. From a staff nurse to Assistant Head Nurse to Manager of the Pediatric Advice Line service, nursing has been my career. I have worked full time and completed my BSN in the process. I currently am retired but worked as a Practice Nurse at the Comprehensive Cancer Center in Berkeley for 6 years. Working with the public is exciting, and to be of service to people makes my world work for me as well as for my family. Being retired now,I still have a full-time workload and it makes every day worthwhile.
