Katie's Story
Life
Right after high school, I moved to southern Indiana to attend the University of Evansville. I had big plans to become a doctor, but thankfully, got lost on the way there. I ended up in Special Education, have moved to General Education, and now have my Administrator's license, working as the assistant principal at an elementary school here in Evansville.
In 1992, I married and now have 2 children--Cassie, 15 and Jaime 13. They're incredible young people, and I'm amazed at their capacity for compassion and introspection everyday. I am truly blessed.
In my career, I stayed in Special Ed, which I loved teaching for 9 years. I began my career teaching at Hamilton Heights High School as the program director for the students with emotional handicaps. I moved back to Evansville and taught in a clinical setting for a couple of years. I then moved to teach at Stockwell Elementary with the students with multiple handicaps. ...Expand for more
I loved those years, and have many lovely memories of precious kiddos. My life has been very enriched by this profession!
I made a move to teach in General Education, staying at Stockwell-- grades 3 up to 5 and stayed in that for several years. I feel like every day brings a new thing for which to be grateful. I am moved to another elementary school here in Evansville that brings back fond memories of high school: Highland Elementary School--complete with the Scots mascot. Funny what life hands you! I'm thrilled to have had this opportunity, as it's truly a stellar school. I taught 5th grade there for a year and now serve as the assistant principal. What a blessing!!
Most of my family has moved to North Carolina, which I consider my home now, too. I love the state, and hope to spend many days on the beach and in the mountains with my family as the years pass.
