Kate's Story

Life I live in a 1927 bungalow in Kirkwood, an intown Atlanta neighborhood near the city of Decatur. Since 2004, I've been to London three times, and Amsterdam and Paris each once. Did a Carribean cruise in early 2012. Also been to Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington DC, the Twin Cities, Tampa, the Miami area, Asheville, and Savannah over the years, as well as visiting my parents and sister Kris -- all now in Phoenix, and occasionally family back in the Milwaukee area. I moved to the metro Atlanta area in 1990. Got married in 1993, divorced in 1994, bought a loft in Castleberry Hill (a historic downtown neighborhood) in 1997, and the house in 2013. No biological kids, but two feline children, both rescues. Fred, my first cat, died in 2003 at 15 from kidney failure, a complication of diabetes. I've had two other cats as well, and I still miss them all. In my spare time, I play flute in a community orchestra, support LGBT rights, try to save the planet, and occasionally attempt to cook Indian food. ll together. But I also work on calculators and tools, articles, quizzes, slideshows, and custom projects. I've even done voice-overs for videos. For more than 10 years, I was a freelance graphic designer and an editor under the company name Kartouche. I developed and managed the monthly in-store events calendar program for about 70 Barnes & Noble locations in the southeast. I also edited and designed an award-winning nonfiction book on the history of Georgia's state boundaries. Prior to starting my own business in 1997, I ran a computer services department at Kinko's and was the regional desktop publishing support specialist for the Atlanta region before that. When I first moved to Atlanta, I worked an administrative assistant at a small software development company. I was involved with my previous neighborhood association, volunteering on two annual Loft Tour committees, working with the Master Plan development, and for over two years spearheaded the drive to establish a 6+ acre community park in the vacant land along the railroad tracks in the heart of the neighborhood. I currently serve on the board of directors for the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra as the treasurer.
