Kay's Story

My joys are my children (2) and grandchildren (5). My oldest child is almost 37 and a golf pro. My youngest is my daughter, age 30, who suffers from MS. She is my hero because of her self-confidence, strength, strong desire to be a great mother, and the fact that she married As , is my hero for her and in Opelika (a booming metropolis)! I really enjoy my If than they, fun-loving, and once they in order to achieve that goal any others If I At Auburn, I was a Delta Delta Delta. I . My current age is 57. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now wouldbase. My best friend would tell you I'm outgoing, but people who don't know me very shy.. Always 60's (variation now and then), and nowTrophies in my household , Miami, and Stanford. He attended both Vandy and Auburn (in his blood like the majority of his mother and her relatives!) He is now employed at Moore's Mill Golf Club in Auburn, and he and wife Melanie have formed their own company in which Will gives private lessons for ages 3 through college. He has Numerous trophies!! Laura has her share of trophies, also, for her superior dancing skills. She went to school for 2 years and then chose to be a wife and mother instead. There Are No More Trophies in my household - how I could have come from a family who mainly attended Auburn, were all excellent golfers, and my daddy had a basketball scholarship to Jacksonville State College (as it was named at the time). I can't throw, catch, play golf, basketball, swim ( dog-paddling) probably doesn't count ). I was, however, the "hoola hoop (sp) champ of the neighborhood! Grandaughter Kaitlyn challenged me to a contest, and she won! ( at age 5! ) In 10 years, I hope to be looking a bit younger!. I'm going to get there by exercise, diet, positive attitude.. I also would love to find the love of my life. My best friend was Susan Kennedy - I will list many other friends whom I would like to reconnect with - Cindy Burke, Gail Stankard, John Lawrence, etcI always wanted to be a psychologist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a nutty idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. Lack of money stood in my way, however. I'm determined that it will NOT hinder my grandson in what he chooses to study. I enjoy working on my fun (to me) various projects, reading, and writing in my daily journal, and doing lots of volunteer work. Too many sick (and Not so sick) older people end up in sub-standard nursing homes, etc., because their families can't or (usually) won't take care of them themselves. It hurts my heart. After all, we ourselves we be old one day, too. My hero is my daughter because after "falling off the tracks" when she was a teenager, she has turned out to be the best mother, wife, worker, supporter of any activity her children want to participate in ( Brett, 15, plays baseball, football, is lifeguarding, lifts weights year-round on his own time, has a huge heart, impeccable manners, and has his eye on Auburn !!). His mom Laura has Never missed a Single game in which he played, which have been extremely numerous! Ten years later, she suffered a rather rare condition called placenta previa - where the tiny baby separates from the placenta, and the mother suffers dangerous blood loss. Laura had to stay in th...Expand for more
e hospital for a day or two - baby Kaitlyn, who weighed less than 2 pounds, was rushed to the hospital in Montgomery which has a well-known and respected neo-natal unit. She could fit in your hand. Laura and husband Shane still had to work, so Every day they traveled to Montgomery from here in order for Laura to deliver what Kaitlyn needed desperately - her mother's milk. Upon their return, the two of them set out to watch Brett in whatever sport he was participating in at the time! I think I mentioned this before, but the most precious thing Laura has ever told me is that she considers herself one of the luckiest people in the world as she married the only man she had ever loved. Precious indeed. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends and being more out-going in spite of being the "odd man out" due to my being widowed. I would love to be remembered as a kind, always caring and considerate and wise girl, but I'm afraid that couldn't be true. I was a Delta without a sorority house! We met in the basement of some other dorm. I lived in the oldest (I think) freshman dorm at Auburn - Dorm 10. The most exciting things that ever happened there were "panty raids" (surely you know) and visits from then-governor as his daughter lived down the hall. We had secret service, police, men in all black suits - the works! My current age is 57. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be nearly extinct. I was so completely right on some days!!!. I taught 6th grade Ancient History, but I am now retired from that. I'm looking at what I'll do next. Sometimes I miss teaching, although I never dreamed that I would. I suppose I really enjoyed most of it. I like older kids - 6 through 12. They are so much more interesting in so many ways. My best friend would tell you I'm in need of a lot more self-confidence, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as full of self-confidence, I think. I had to laugh aloud when the ads began pushing "ballerina flats"! I never Stopped wearing flats!! I suppose I'm much like I was decades ago, with just a few small changes. No big victories here, but I once had my chance. I will say that my son and my daughter had more than their share! In 10 years, I hope to be getting it right this time. I'm going to get there by being sincere and making a move in self-worth and self-confidence. My best girl friend was Susan Kennedy, and I loved her and her mom so much. My own home wasn't a very happy place in which to spend time. I practically lived at Susan's home. I based the majority of my beliefs, dignity, and choice of friends and acquaintances (ap), dress, etc. from her. She was indeed my More than substitute mother, and I loved her very much and will never forget her. One negative, however: being with all my friends, both male and female, caused me to make several huge mistakes that I would give anything to take back. My photo is a copy of a grandchild of a very, very special friend.
