Kay's Story

Wow, where do I start? Well, I graduated from NCCHS in 1969. I worked in the insurance industry, which paid me enough to buy a Corvette sports car in 1971. On a dare, I had the car customized and entered in a Custom Car Show in Chicago. The car won that show, and the promoters offered me a deal I couldn't refuse----the show promoters liked the idea of a girl owning a championship car so they offered to pay EVERYTHING (transportation, food, lodging, air fares, etc., etc.) So I started traveling around the country (i.e. Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, New York, Virginia Beach, Miami, and many more). After six years on the circuit, I retired myself and also retired my car. I sold the car for three times what I paid for it, and with that money, along with all the money I won in the car shows, I was able to have my own house built. I then went to the University of Wisconsin, where I got two degrees (Finance and Accounting). Two years later, I got my masters, also at UW. At the ripe old age of 32, I married Bill, who was a policeman with the Gurnee police department, At that time I was an investment banker. He retired four years ago, and now we just enjoy life. We love to travel to foreign countries and see how other people get along. We bought a townhome in Florida where we go for the winters. We're doing just great and so glad all our friends and family are doing the same! The latest news is that we're making the big MOVE to Florida!! We so loved spending the winters there that we decided to make it permanent. We bought a gorgeous home in Port Charlotte (it even has its own indoor swimming pool and hot tub) and our winter townhome we are just turning into a rental home to give us a little additional monthly income! tual move won't happen until we get our Illinois house sold, but hopefully that won't take long!! Hey! Our Illinois house sold after only 5 days, and for full asking price!! So we said goodbye to Illinois and are now happy Floridians! Also, we're really looking forward to the winter when many of our friends and family members are going to come and visit us (and get a break from that frigid Illinois weather!). So, life has been extremely good to us and continues to keep us very humble............................... many shows after that, taking me all over the country. After six years I retired myself and the car, selling it for 3 times what it originally cost! With the money from the sale and the money earned at all the shows, I was able to have my own house built and also go to University of Wisconsin, getting two bachelor degrees and a masters. I became an insurance agent for a while but found it a little dull so I switched to being an investment banker (which I love). At the ripe old age of 32, I married Bill, who was a Gurnee police officer. It seemed to make sense having police in the family in case I got into REAL trouble!! (hee hee) We decided that kids weren't in our future so we have just kept ourselves busy and happy by travelling all over the country and abroad. Bill retired from the police force, which seems kind of odd since he's only 54. But he was ready after over 28 years. Now he has a part-time security job which he enjoys. We're looking for a condo or townhouse in Florida to spend our winters there. We like the Orlando area but Miami is also a possiblity. Time will tell. All we can say is so far so good. After all, we're still here!!
