Kay's Story

Life Married 50 years, May 5th, to Kirby Skaggs, a 1969 graduate from Ponca City, OK. Lived in Owasso, Ok. where Kirby served for 26 1/2 years at Bethel Baptist Church, as Music and Youth, Music, and Singles and Sr. Adult Minister. After 40 years in the ministry Kirby retired and we now live in Ft. Worth, TX with our daughter, her husband and four of our seven grandchildren. Kirby is embarking on a new life profession as a truck driver and I am keeping the roads well traveled with visiting grandchildren and family. Kirby and I have two children Sarah (49), a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom, married to Pete Franz, the Regional Area Manager for Jackson Hewitt Tax Services for the Dallas/Ft. Worth region. They have four children: Calvin (23 yrs.), Kate (21 yrs.), Andrew (19 yrs.), and John (16 yrs.). Bill (34) Music and Youth at Oakley Chapel of Rogers ,AR., married to Sunny (Graham) Skaggs, a stay-at home mom with a photography business called Sunny Graham Photography. They have two sons, Graham (19 yrs.) and Jackson (17 yrs.), and Finnely (12 yrs). I would love to hear from friends and classmates. 54 years is too long to be out of touch! Work I never really planned on working outside the home. But ended up working at a bank for 6 years, then managing a beauty salon for 3 years. I ended up returning to school where I earned my elementary school certification. Meanwhile I also earned my masters in reading and a masters in elementary school ...Expand for more
counseling. I taught in impoverished high-challenge At-Risk schools for my entire teaching career. I retired as the Dean of Students at Sam Houston Elem. School in the Tulsa Public School District after 10 years. I loved the work, but felt it was time to spend more time helping my husband in his work in the ministry. After 46 years in the ministry Kirby retired and we now live in Ft. Worth, TX with our daughter, her husband and three of our seven grandchildren. The oldest grandson has flown the coup and now lives and works in Maryland. College College was broken up for me. I started in 1970, dropped out and got married in 1973. I went back and finished in 1979-1980 with my BS in Education in Health, Physical Education and recreation and a minor in Psychology. I did not go to work until I had to. Then I went to work as a switchboard operator/receptionist at First Bank of Owasso in Owasso, where my husband took a church as Minister of Youth and Music. After three years I went to work as a beauty shop manager in a shop within a nursing home. It was very rewarding, while hard physically and emotionally. After three years I returned to the bank and to school at night. After only three years, I got my elementary certification, a masters in reading and a masters in elementary school counseling. During the years I taught school, it was my pleasure to teach at Northeastern State University during the summers for Great Expectations Methodology.
