Kay's Story

Life This is me at the beginning of my chemo treatments. I later lost my eyebrows and eyelashes as well. My dad is beside me. I have been married 28 wonderful years to Walter. We have 2 children, Lacey 25 (married to a wonderful man Rusty and live in Carlsbad NM) and Alexandra 18. We currently live in Quitaque, Tx. I am a Registered Nurse (R.N.) but not currently working due to cancer/treatment/diabetes complications. I have been disabled with chronic neuropathy since June 06. My mom Jean died in 2002 unexpectedly and believe me you never get over it. My dad lives in Gainesville Tx and my sister Kim lives by Denton Tx. I have worked as a nursing home/Hospice nurse for years and believe me "Jesus is the Way" I love animals. I have 2 dogs, Penny and Hazel, 1 cat, Hoodie, 2 turtles Squirt and Crush, and the newest additions to my family are Kiwi N Mic, Sugar Gliders. (they are really neat) Workplace Worked 12 1/2 years with People with Mental Retardation & Dual Diagnosed patients. I was kicked, hit in the head with a hard suitcase & a plastic bat, thrown in front of a moving van while pregnant, spit on etc. Then I became a Registered Nurse and worked in Geriatrics & Hospice. Have had to deal with death & dying issues for years with patients and families. Hey & by the way, Jesus is the way! 2/08 Still unable to work due to complications from the chemo/diabetes adverse reactions. I can walk much better now although I still drag a foot and need either a shopping cart or a wa...Expand for more
lker to walk very far. I still tire very easily and finally can drive myself again to Plainview on good days. I take mega pain meds and antidepressants (that also double as meds for neuropathy pain). I now receive disability due to these problems but just to let you know, we are continually blessed by our Lord. 12/08 Its been a year I have been thankful for, so far I'm still in remission, Thank you Lord Jesus! My youngest is a Senior and just turned 18 so Walter and I will be home alone parents in a few months. I'm still waiting for grandkids. God bless you 1-09 I have signed up for Monahans, Edwards elementary. I went to school there from 1st-3rd grade and lived 609 Kenneth St. I remember alot of people, but mostly first names. I lived accross the street from Lisa Nall, down the street from a girl named Dayla that had blonde hair, some boys that lived on the end of the block an older girl named Donna Hurt. I remember I had a crush on Ronnie Hill, was in Brownies and had friends Helen White and a girl named Tammy that lived down by the 7/11 by the hospital. As a tomboy, we used to play war in the rocks behind Kenneth street as there wasnt a subdivision behind it, and we roller skated on the cement oil tank all the time. In 1979 I went on a 4-H trip to Washington DC and met Kirk McFarlin and Wes Moore. Wes and I talked afterwards and I planned on coming down and staying with Lisa Nall for a few days to see him again my senior year but that fell through. Peace to you all
