Kay's Story

I was quiet in school and not one to be noticed. After school I began my family and I have 2 grown children, 5 grand children and 1 great grand child. Yes I am a very young grandmother. The kids call me "GRANNY'. However I have ridden over 100,000 miles on a motorcycle seeing this great and beautiful country of ours. There is no other way to experience it than to become a part of it. Believe me it is worth the journey and the bugs. I owned my own business (early childhood care and developement) for 15 years and then sold it and went back to work doing the same thing only for the other person. (no more head aches) I love children and they have been a part of my life since forever. I hope all of my high school friends have had a wonderful time, just as I have, experiencing this life in this time period. One last thing, you can only do it with GOD and HIS SON JESUS. Keep smiling you never know who is around the corner. Cynthia "Kay" (Smith)Kersey The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Judy Vickers, because she was a good friend. I have not heard from her or about her in over 35 years. Judy if you are out there please e-mail me. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have patience, strong back, and peace of mind to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Children are a challenge and you have to be strong in body and spirit. You are shaping your future. My husband Mike is my hero. We have been married 28 plus years and he is a wonderful person, so kind and gentle. If you are going to watch anything sport related watch the true sport of NASCAR. It has changed so much over the years since Petty, Allison, Johnson, Yarbourgh, and most assuredly EARNHART. But these guys drive an average speed of 130mph sometimes much more and they pass and bump and run and WOW. Can You Do That? The fastest I have ever driven was 145 mph in my corvette and that was for only a short period of time and only once. I have ridden a motorcycle at 120mph but do not care to do that again. Speed is a thrill but it does kill. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the kitchen and add a professional stainless steel cook station. I love to prepare dishes and I want so badly to have a new kitchen. I have lived in my house for over 25 years and I have the same appliances as when we moved in. Yes, God is good, and I have not had to replace anything, but stainless is so nice. My dream home would be a cabin in the mountains of NC or West VA. of course with a stainless steel kitchen. When it comes to children, let them know it's okay to make mistakes. Admitt that you where wrong and say you are sorry. Learn from your mistakes, let them make you Better not Bitter. If I won $100 million, I'd give a tithe of it to church, then spend the rest on family, friends ...Expand for more
and charity. My current age is 57. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely clueless. My best friends would tell you I'm silly and crazy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet and reserved. No way do I dress like I did in school. I enjoy the younger styles and I have to go to the juinor section of the store to really find any thing I like. KHOLS, Bealls, and Bealls Outlet are my stores. I do not like the old foggy style of dress. In 10 years, I hope to be fully retired. I'm going to get there by the good LORD willing and the creek don't rise. I want to see my great grand son accept Christ and my grand children to graduate. I have one down and 4 to go in school but thank you Lord they all know Jesus. My first job was at MORRISON's Cafeteria, down town Lakeland, where I got paid $1.05/hr to prep salade. What I remember most about it is there is no resturant that is CLEAN. And I mean NO not then not NOW. I would love to know where Mr. Powell is now. He was the Spainish teacher. I truly respected him and he respected us as individuals. He was my favorite teacher. Well that is about it to my life I was born in Lakeland and have always received my mail in Lakeland and will most likely die in Lakeland. This town has changed in 57 years some good some bad but you have to go with the flow and do what you know to be right and best for you and your loved ones, friends, county, state, country. Pray it up and let your heart and conscience be your guide. Good Luck to all and may God Bless the class of 67-68.
