Keith's Story

Upon receiving my degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Florida in 1972, I went to Pennsylvania for my first real job in television news. I was one of the original Action News reporters for WLYH-TV in the central Pennsylvania area including my coverage of the legislature at the state capital in Harrisburg. That lead to several major life events, including my marriage to the "traffic manager" of the television station. We have now been married for 50 years. My journalism degree and experience in television news lead to a full military career in Public Affairs. It included command of a Public Affairs unit and service as the Public Affairs Officer for several headquarters. I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army. The military career then lead to a full U.S. Government civilian career in Public Affairs with the U.S. Department of Defense. I also retired from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) which is America's combat logistics support agency. I am proud to note our two sons are also military service members. One is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and is currently a U.S. Government civilian with the Veterans Administration. One is on active duty with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and is nearing full retirement. Along the way, I was even in NASCAR, ...Expand for more
serving as a Director of Public Relations for one its tracks. I was on the road for stock car race promotional tours with the likes of Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Terry Labonte, Richard Childress and others back in the 1980's. I drove the track's Pace Car. To this day, I am still a "ham" radio operator and have spoken with other operators in every single country of the world. My radio callsign W3KB includes my initials. Although I am "Retired".....Never Stop Serving: I am a life member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and The American Legion (TAL). I am also a member of the Pennsylvania Public Relations Society (PPRS). I am a former State President of the MOAA Pennsylvania Council of Chapters and the current Commander of an American Legion Post. I voluntarily serve as a Delegate to the Pennsylvania War Veterans Council and as a member of its Legislative Committee. Comprised of members of the nation's major veteran organizations, including MOAA, the Council is a collectively strong voice for military veterans in Pennsylvania. One of my recent achievements was advocating with the PA State legislature to establish the Pennsylvania Medal of Honor Highway. I am also advocating with the U.S. Congress to establish the National Medal of Honor Highway.
