Keith's Story
They tell me I was born at the Baton Rouge General Hospital in 1958, but I really don't remember. I can only remember back to when I was 4 or so. My only sister woke me up one morning and said "Keith, wake up, you're 4". I was raised to age 10 in Denham Springs, La., went to Don Avenue Baptist Church (was babtised there) and Southside Elementary until November of '68. My parents divorced in 1965(when I was 7). I played 5th grade football for Coach Fontonot(Denham Springs started kids out in football young). We moved to Baton Rouge. I attended Good Wood Elementary (who had no football team), and I was voted "Most Mischievious Boy" in the 6th grade. I then went to Westdale Jr. High. I moved to Zachary, La. to live with my dad for most of the 1st half of the 7th grade. I attended Robert Livingston Accademy during that time, went back to Mom's in Baton Rouge and Westdale Jr High, where in the 9th grade, I played football for Coach Acrey. Later that year, I got expelled. Then mama put me back in Robert Livingston Academy to finish out the school year. I did (with an extra half credit). Mama always said that I could fall into an outhouse and come out smelling like a rose:). Then I went to Tara High for about 9 weeks, went to live with my dad again and finished the year at Zachary High. Then back to Tara, where I graduated in mid-semester of 1976, and then started LSU at age 17. Dropped out in March of '77 to join the Marine Corps. Was stationed in California '77 to Feb '78, and then Hawaii for 3 years. Went on float (Westpac) in Jan 1980, and found myself in the Ind...Expand for more
ian Ocean and Persian Gulf for the failed hostage rescue attempt. After I got out of the service, I found that I really missed it. So I went into the reserves in Baton Rouge. For a civillian job, I first went back into the Painter's Union. Then I sold cars, but that didn't work out, so I got into roofing and remodeling. When the market dried up in '85, I moved to Texas and went to work on a concrete crew. I did another year in the Marine Reserves in '86/87,and I tried my hand at sales again (selling mutual funds). Although I became a District Mgr, I quit and again found myself in remodeling and construction. In '91, I built my first house. A member of my crew got killed in an automobile accident over the Memorial Day weekend, and the rest of my crew consisted of his (the dead man's) father, his passenger, and myself. Then I shut down and sold mobil homes for awhile. Also, in '91, I went in the Navy Seabee reserves, and stayed 4 years. In '94, I took a job as superintendent for a home building company. I've worked for several construction companies over the years, but I formed my own. We are "Texas Heritage Development, LLC" with a dba of "Acadian Homes." We're located in Killeen, Texas (just outside of Fort Hood), and I'm very proud of my work. Ive been married since '78, to the same girl. We got our daughter an education at Texas A&M, and just recently I walked her down the isle. So my wife and I are "empty nesters" once again. That's about it. I'll be building houses for a while longer, I guess. Thanks for reading. SEMPER FI and OOO-RAH!!!
