Keith's Story

Madge Allen and I were married just before my senior year at KU. After graduating from KU in music ed., I taught for a year. By then, I had decided to attend seminary. I graduated from the Episcopal Theological Seminary in 1958, and was ordained after graduation. We were sent briefly to a small town south of Wichita Falls, Texas, then for several years in North-East Texas. After this, I became the assistant in a huge parish in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas. After about 4 years, we were transferred to a small town parish in North-East Louisiana where we served for six years. t the Academy of Health Sciences in San Antonio. After this, we moved to Houston, TX., where we were chrismated into the Orthodox Church of America. After we were fully members of the Orthodox Church, the bishop brought us back to Dallas, were I and another former Episcopal priest were prepared for ordination at the cathedral. During this period, Madge and I both worked in the county court house across from the book depository and the "grassy knoll." I also served as choir director at the cathedral during this time. After ordination, we served Orthodox communities in Arkansas, then in Florida, suburban Detroit, rural Wisconsin, and Dallas before retiring for the first time in 1995, when I hit age 65. Our daughter lived in the finger lakes of New York, so we moved there and started a small winery. After Madge died, I left retirement and now serve a small parish near New York City.
