Keith's Story

Life I'm married and have been for 27 years now. We have to daughters: Hope - 24, and Holly - 22. We have 2 beagles, and mutt. We also have a cat that is about 15 years. We are now living back in Alexandria after travelling around the country thanks to the US Navy. Tena (my wife) is a home health nurse (RN) and I am a network engineer. We are looking to buy a house since we lost ours during Katrina. School I had the biggest crush on Kathy Cox. And boy she is still as pretty today as she was back then. The teacher that inspired me the most was Ms. Needham. She taught me that I had an apptitude for science and engineering and that I should follow my heart in what I wanted to do. I hated High School, and there is NO WAY that I'd ever want to do that again!!!! Military I went to Navy boot camp the day after Cristmas, 1978. After boot camp I came home on boot leave and married Tena. I then went to submarine school, then Basic Submarine Electronics School and Advance Electronic School specializing in Digital Electronics. My first ship was the USS Simon Lake (AS-33), a submarine tender. My greatest accomplishment on that ship was writting QA plans for maintenace of NavCenter Electronics repair. These plans were adopted by the entire Atlantic Fleet FBM Sub Force. I then went to a submarine, ...Expand for more
USS Daniel Webster (SSBN 624 b). I qualified ships (got my dolphins) and qualified Nav Center Supervisor. Next I spent time with the CB's as a military instructor, teaching Field Combat Communications and Field Wiring Techniques. Here is where I qualifed as a Master Training Specialist. I also receive my promotion to E-6. After this I want to school in Mare Island, CA for training in Crypto Systems. After Mare Island I went to my next ships the USS Canisteo (AO-99). I made several cruises including the Caribean Islands, the Med and the Arabian Sea. I was part of the battle group that shot down Libyia's MIGs. In the Arabian Sea, we were part of the Battle Group that escorted the reflagged Kawati Oil Takers. We sat out off shore and refuel the Combat Ships after they returned from escort. Then I went to Memphis TN for more traing on Aviation Ground Electronics. I was then transfered to NAS/JRB New Orleans. I was there for more than 3 years. Then I transfered the US Navy Reservers, received my Navy Achievment Medal, commission an officer, and received my Navy Commendation Medial. While in the active reservers, I as the training officer to the NAS New Orleans reserve component and duty officer for Operations on the week-ends when I had drill. Retired from active reserve duty while in New Orleans.
