Kelly's Story
Life
I went to UNL for one semester and bombed!!! Moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1980 and still live there. Graduated from Drake University in 1989 - very proud of that!! I even had a good GPA!!! So I really messed up the first 7 or 8 years after high school! Too much partying - not enough forward thinking. Now I am much older and much wiser!! I have three daughters - one who is 21, married and pregnant! So I am going to be a grandma!! My second child will be a senior this year and my youngest will be in 8th grade....she also has autism so it has been an adjustment raising a child with special needs. But these kids are called special for a reason - they really enrich your life!! I'm still 5' 10" but a lot less skinny then I was in high school!!! This was taken a couple years ago. I now let my hair go curly!! No more trying to straighten the mane!!
School
Sophomore Class President. Cheerleader 10 - 12. Student Council. Pep Club. FBLA. The bottom line is - I started my high school career out right and ended it poorly. Maybe the school split had something to do with it. Maybe a rebellious attitude. But I wish I had hit the books, studied more and partied A LOT less!! Went to college and became a doctor or lawyer. outh and have nothing to show for it when they get old (quickly!!) And I also wish that the Bellevue Public Schools were less political. But I guess that is a factor in all school districts!
College
Went to UNL for a semester. Dropped out and worked. Then went to a college in Waxahachie, Texas for a year. Then I went to Drake University for a semester. Had had enough of it so I worked for 5 or 6 years and then went back. It all changes when you are paying for it and you have responsibilities like being a parent and a wife. I became the model student and graduated when I was 29!! I cried at my graduation!!!
Workplace
Spent a good deal of time in the restaurant business. Started out at good, ole Lum's! Worked at Chi Chi's Mexican restaurant in Des Moines for 5 years while it was the busiest restaurant in the state of Iowa! We rocked! Left there and went to college. After college I sold cars and furniture then finally opened a Christian bookstore in 1994 - Wellspring. We have grown tremendously and have won numerous industry awards. We are #12 in the nation for independently owned Christian retailers. It is interesting to sell these products - people are so needy - always searching for answers. The products I sell to people really help them and I am very happy about that!
