Ken's Story

I graduated from Beavercreek (OH) HS in 1976 after only a year there in Ohio. My dad was in the AF so I ended up moving there right before my senior year. I played on the football team, and the baseball team (centerfield and pitcher) where we ended up playing for the state championship (lost in semis to Shaker Height I think) - Go Battling Beavers!! I still keep in contact with Greg Goforth (1977 grad) but sorry to say nobody else. I remember Karen Combs and her brother Larry, Dave Lockner, and others but not their names - sorry. I can't find my year book so the names have slipped my mind over the years..... Biloxi: My Soph/Junior year was in Biloxi, MS. I was friends with Greg Ellison and Linda Thompson (and her friends) - was on the football and baseball teams there as well. I thought I heard the football won the MS State Championship in the 1975 football season. I hope so, there was some awesome players as part of the 1976 senior class. As a player, I remember the coaches pulling our facemask to get our attention, spitting tobaco on our cleats, and the 2/days in the summer heat (while taking Salt tablets..). 6th - 9th grade was in Topeka, KS at Jay Schiedler Junior High. I was friends with Bill Long, Curt Hicks, Curt Jergensen, Chris Larson, Rob Manes... and the football/basketball/track guys. And remember the girls they and I hung out with: Susan Miller, Tammy Bethel, Robin Lawless, Gayla Pfanastill, Becky (and Stan) Benavedez, Janis Harmon and others. I guess I'm name-dropping but don't know how any of these relationship changed from Junior high to HS and college...Expand for more
and your professional careers - so was hoping to only mention some names I hung out with to see if any of them remember me. I remember more faces - but not names. I sure most of you moved on to other greater things then junior high - not tyring to hinder that but just a little reminiscing of when we were just "kids", guess I remember more names from KS because I was there for 4 years...... I do remember my English teacher playing Neil Diamond songs while we suppose to be writing papers - don't think it helped me, our Science teacher/head football coach being "cool" (though he got fired near the end of my 9th grade year, some parents had him fired for cursing during the footbal year I think), sitting in rows in our little Jay Schlr shorts/shirts for 7th grade PE class - and all the fears/embarrassment/excitiment that went along with it, sock hops in the gym, ....... if you have any other memeries to share - please do. As I get older its interesting to try to remember people's names from 35+ years ago. After HS grad I attended at Wright State for a year then went in the AF for 4 years. Spent 2 years in Japan and 2 in CA. I graduated from Chapman University (in CA). Then got out of the AF and joined Lockheed Martin (LM), first in Sunnyvale, CA for 10 years. Im currently living in Colorado Springs, CO and am coming up on 30 years with LM as a System Eng Manager - leading a team of engineers launching and flying sateillites. I have a daughter (25 years old), Leann, and a son (23 years old), Jeff. I hope those who remember me are doing well, drop me a note if you get a chance.
