Ken's Story
I hope my friends remember be as being a kind and thoughtful person, fun loving and happy.
My favorite way to relax is following world events and US politics, working on my old cars, meeting friends for coffee, mediation and although it is not relaxation I try to get to the gym as often as I can.
I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I really don't think I ever grew up and I really don't want to. My family thought this was weird and as it turns out..they were right. To this day my family really has no idea what it is I do for a living. They think my career was all about driving sick people to a hospital...no clue about the advanced procedures preformed on patients, the IV's the meds, protocols and the constant education requirements and my license to practice emergency medicine or the professional affiliations.
It has been my mission throughout my whole career, to remove the word "Driver" from ambulance. Here is the equation in case you don't know it's .. "Ambulance Driver" minus "driver" equals "Paramedic".
AD - D = ACP (advanced Care Paramedic) and educate the public about Emergency Medicine.
If you still can't grasp the concept just go ask a "police car driver" or a "fire truck driver" they will help you out. Ok now I am just ranting and perhaps even raving...I'll stop that and move on!
My family thinks that I teach CPR and First Aid at SIAST. hhhmmm Anatomy, physiology, cardiology, Phramacology and Pharnacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, International Trauma Life Support etc ..I guess it's first aid of a sort. ha ha ah!
My current posting is in medical simulation at Saskatchewan Polytechnic as Senior Faculty in the Learning and Teaching Division.
Movin on........
I think that the wildest thing I ever did in high school was, going skinny dipping in Regent pool ...and getting caught by the cops, won't tell who my accomplices were, that's just not right. The secret is safe here.
If I am going to work somewhere now I need to have my laptop..iPhone ..Apple Watch..iPad.... and my Energy Drink! to be able to deal with the day. In other words I am a techno geek and a caffeine addict.
My heroes are Johnny Gauge and Roy Desoto form Squad 51...the reason I am what I am today...just ask any paramedic from that era and the answer would be the same. And now the guys from "Scorpion"
I have lived in various parts of the 3 western provinces, mostly because of work and school ..that's all on my time line in the profile.
Just recently I connected with the one person in my past that I most wanted to see... it was a person that had inspired me to always strive to be a better person. I still admire her to this day. It is difficult to express what she means to me.
Sports, Pets and TV are not real issues in my life as I have alot of other diversions that keep me occupied.
I have had no real surprises in my life, I have gone, for the most part, the direction I wanted and always accepted it with an open mind.
I really dislike doing home remos, I have deduced it to this... my exceptions of the finished product overshadows my ability and talent...in short, I suck at it!
If I had the opportunity to visit with Mr Chabun I would welcome it wholly, what a neat guy he was. I know this now, I was a bit stupid in those years.
when I worked at Olds College in Alberta, I lived in residence, it was an interesting experience, everyon...Expand for more
e forgot that I was a member of the college staff and thought I was a student. the fun part of it was that the college pub was just down the hall and a flight of stairs away not more than fifty metres.
I am now 50 something~ years old, when I was 12 I thought people this old were living in old folks homes, shhheeeesssshh, I sure hope they don't think that of old guys like me now. That, by the way, was a one off comment, you shall never hear me speak of getting old again! I loath the fact that I am aging...but I refuse to give in...I will not go quietly into the night....I am going down fighting! I will stay healthy and fit and wise (ya right) well into my aged years. That is my promise to myself.
My career aspirations ...ha ha ha ...I am on the freedom 75 plan ...gonna work until I drop. You know that statistics show the people that retire early also die earlier.
My first crush... there were so many..but my first real one...I don't know...but I was on a call one day treating a lady that had fallen and broken her arm when I saw a picture on the mantel of the this girl.I asked the lady what ever came of her and got the story...but I have never seen or heard from or of her yet...if you're out there..how cool to talk to you it would be. "LT" I'd like to chat sometime. I have recently learned that she has had a couple of battles with cancer, my family has been touched by this awful disease and I sincerely hope that she came through it again alright.
What's next?
Yes I still dress pretty much like I did 10 or 20 years ago ...I have lived most of my life in a uniform ..I have no sense of style.
The weirdest job I ever had ..I guess was actually pretty cool. I was an interpreter for the hearing impaired..was cool but I couldn't make a living doing it. My present job ranks as kinda weird in a way.
In 10 years I hope to be...still alive, doing something different and interesting and if I can't do that, then I will do what I like.. but I will probably be doing some kind of consulting.
My oldest friend is someone I have already talked about, we met working as playground supervisors we had an immediate affinity and a strong almost spooky connection. We still connect.
I am not sure what would surprise everyone at a reunion... I was not a very ambitious person in high school in fact I was kind of dumb and shiftless..yes the word is "shift- less"... I am nothing like that now, so that may surprise some.
My first job was at Kresges..there were a few of us from O'Neill there, we were paid $3.10 an hour and were paid in cash every two weeks. I just remember that it was a fun place to work......Actually now that I have thought about it, my first job was at MacDonalds Consolidated..not the hamburger place with the clown, it was a warehouse that supplied grocery stores with food - a division of Canada Safeway..anyway, I worked in the freezer all summer long....it sucked!!! not much more to say about that.
Here I am supposed to share an unforgettable childhood memory...really what sticks out the most is playing shinny with the guys..Dean Shaw, Doug Stahman, Randy Zita, Larry Lestage...all the boys from the hood!!!
Whats Happening now?
I remarried just last year, what a great experience this has been! I have never been happier.
That's it! all the questions asked and answered...well not all ..I skipped a few.
Take good care everyone.
