Ken's Story
Born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago. Attended St. Ferdinand grammar school grades K through 8 and graduated in 1959. Attended St Patrick HS (Chicago) for my freshman and sophomore years, and attended West Leyden HS (Northlake) for my junior and senior years, after moving from Chicago to Leyden Township (Melrose Park). Graduated in 1963.
After graduation I went to work in August of '63 at Automatic Electric in Northlake as an expeditor in the Installation Department. In October of '67 I was drafted into the Army where I was trained at Fort Leonard, MO - Fort Polk, LA - and Fort Benning, GA before being sent to Viet Nam in October of '68. Served as a Sgt. (E-5) Squad Leader in the 25th Infantry Division (Wolfhounds) 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment until being injured in both leg...Expand for more
s in February of '69 by a booby trap. Injuries were too severe for recovery in VN so was sent to the hospital at Fort Campbell, KY were I spent two (2) months in recovery. Left the Army in '69 and returned to Automatic Electric (GTE Communication Systems) where I worked at several positions until my retirement as Customer Service Manager in May of 1990 after 27 years service.
Graduated in 1978 with honors from Elmhurst College with a B.S. Degree in Marketing after attending night and summer school classes for 8 years.
Lived in Elmhurst, IL from 1971 to 1993 with my wonderful wife (Lyn) of 51 years. Moved to Camden, Maine in 1993 where we purchased the Swan House Bed and Breakfast. This year (2022) we will (hopefully) be starting our 30 th year as innkeepers.
