Ken's Story

Ken is from Harlan, Kentucky. He is married with Sue Lawson. His schools include Harlan City Schools through 8th Grade and Owensboro Senior High School graduating in 1967. He graduated with a Business and Economics degree from Vanderbilt University. Later he studied family business at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He was President of Thriftway Lumber in Kentucky and Indiana for over 20 years and currently works through the Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City facilitating entrepreneurship for the University of Southern Indiana. He has also served on the boards of Lumbermens Merchandising Corporation, in Wayne, PA, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, and was Vice Chair of Advocacy of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. My wife, Sue, is a retired Elementary School teacher and businesswoman. Our daughter, Meg, a graduate of Duke and the University of Tennessee, is a Veterinarian in Madisonville, KY.
