Ken's Story

The Q & A questions are pretty limited and don't tell a lot. I rejoined here to see what some of you are doing. Have to admit some of you bring back some memories I'd rather forget. Ha! I left Creston in 1972 after getting married. Ended up in Commercial Banking for about 15 years and then in my own Financial Consulting business for a few more. Saw and lived in most ares of the province during that period. Divorced in 1982 and remarried in 1985. In 1993 We moved back to Lister and a couple years later got back into farming. Wouldn't live anywhere else. I grow, buy, sell and truck hay throughout the Kootenays. If I never had to go to town I'd be quite happy. Had 3 children from the first marriage. The oldest my daughter has 4 children and 1 grandchild which makes me a great grandfather (yikes) My daughter lives in Creston, the great granddaughter in Prince George. The next oldest a son has a daughter of 2 years and they also live in Prince George. My youngest son was killed at 18 in a car crash here in Creston in October of 1994. Since his death I have volunteered with several program such as PARTY, talking to teens about the risks involved with drinking and driving. As for hobbies I played hockey and fastball for ...Expand for more
many years until the knees gave out and then I coached for a few years. I play some golf and do photography and play guitar. I still have an electric guitar I bought when I was 14 and trying to be the next Paul McCartney. Never made that one happen!! In 2004 I got into genealogy to initially trace my Dad's ancestry from Germany to Poland to Latvia and finally to Canada. I then began tracing my Mom's family which was English on one side and German on the other. At this point I have 3 Family trees containing about 7,000 names. Through it I have "met" people from all over the world who have relatives in common. Amazing what the internet has done. Our other hobby is our classic "cat", a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible. My first car was a 68 Cat and I drove her for 15 years until some clown in Williams Lake decided to dance on her with hobnailed boots. I never did find out if it was a guy that got turned down for a loan!! That was the end of the 68. Loved that car, it was fun to drive and had more class than the Stangs, Firechickens and such. No offense to any collectors. So, that pretty much covers things for me. I lead the quiet life in the country where I can hear the birds, see the mountains and watch the hay grow.
