Ken's Story
I'm not especially different from the Ken you remember, just a lot less hair, and I've learned so much more from the school of hard knocks than I did in school-school.
I have been self-employed for most of the past 18 years providing handyman and property maintenance services to mostly residential properties. The past couple of years I have streamlined to just a few select homes and a 42-unit condo complex. I used to do all the work myself, but as of 2010 I rely on a full time assistant with a strong back and good sense of humor to help with productivity and morale.
In the past, my work was painfully seasonal, so I took on an interesting variety of winter jobs - usually restaurant work - to pay the bills until the grass started growing again in April. I did everything from catering to bartending, from working for a local commercial satellite company to cool-sealing mobile home roofs, from 4-star 4-diamond fine dining to Fatz Cafe and pizza delivery at PapaJohns. cts that mean I don't have to deliver pizza anymore. Ever. Or at least I hope not!
The high points of my life have been: two Outward Bound courses (sailing and white water rafting); enjoying the companionship of a golden retriever named Cody from puppyhood til she died in my arms of old age a couple of years ago; five Caribbean cruises; going with my best friend to Europe three times (saw Dachau twice, Munich, Berchtesgaden, Salzberg, Prague, Rothenberg ob der Tauber, Prien, western Hungary, Vienna, Slovenia); and meeting some really amazing people along the way.
Life has provided some wonderful friendships thru the years, and I count many of my band and theater friends from high school among them. It is sad that I lost touch with almost all of you until the 25th reunion. What a great time!
But life gets busy and you go your separate ways, not on purpose, just out of routine. And suddenly it's been 15 more years. But if you're lucky you get to say Hello again and at least reaffirm the meaningfulness of past friendships.
Best wishes to all of you! Love, Ken
