Ken's Story

Life Starving art student-turned-newspaper editor makes good. Early 90s, fearless friend Zach's far-off sister eventually came home from a year of study abroad. Her unfortunate accessorized boyfriend of the time inspires years of deep and thoughtful friendship. In the mid-90s our intrepid hero works out in Pitt-like fashion for six solid weeks and spends last $300 on plane ticket to Boston where Zach's sister was preoccupied with research on the embryonic development of spiderlike ganadatrophin-releasing neurons. Much frolicking and hilarity ensues. Thus ends the most dramatic bits of this epic tale. Burke-Gilman. After a year and a half writing and editing Microsoft's _Encarta_ encyclopedia, I settled down for a career as a graphic designer and web developer for the University of Washington. Been there for the last seven years, and I couldn't be happier. Essie has finished medical school and is into her surgical residency training at UC Irvine. She is becoming a so-called "ENT surgeon" (ear-nose-and-throat), formally known as an Otolaryngologist. I have retained my position at the University of Washington, commuting every two weeks between Seattle and Orange County. Surprisingly, this arrangement has worked well for the last two years: I telecommute from SoCal, and appear to be beating most contenders for the honor of "most frequent-flier miles."
