Kenet's Story
Life
I am married to Nancy with two sons, Tanner (31), and Davis (27), they followed their college girlfriends to Philadelphia and live and work there now.
I live in Asheville, NC. It is the most beautiful area in the world. I earned my Masters in English from Western Carolina University, have a BS in journalism from the University of Florida, and a BA in English from Georgia State University.
I graduated from Florida in 1980 and went to work for the Coleman Company as the regional sales rep for the southeast selling Coleman heating and air conditioning to the manufactured housing industry while living in Atlanta, GA. I hated the traveling and selling, but the money was too good to pass up. In 1982, I quit and went to work for Kmart Corporation as a Merchandise Manager in Cumming, GA since I would not have to travel. I found out that there is something worse than being a traveling salesman, retail. In 1984, I went to work for Mingledorff's Inc., the Carrier Air Conditioning distributor for Georgia. I tried selling again, and then moved into management. I enjoyed the company and job, but as I was promoted, I missed the developing and training of ...Expand for more
employees, my true love. So, I quit and went back to school to earn my English degree and teach high school. I also worked for a year for CanFab Co, while earning my degree (I really should not be a traveling salesman, but my three attempts helped me relate to Willie Loman).
Nancy and I chose to move to Asheville when I graduated to have a more relaxed lifestyle, and I took an adjunct job at the local community college while waiting for a teaching job in the high schools to open up. I loved teaching at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College so much that I earned my masters degree and was hired full-time. I have truly found my niche.
I moved to teaching at Southwestern Community College in Sylva, NC in 2011, which is rated one of the Top Ten Community Colleges in the nation for three years.
Now I'm back at A-B Tech since 2014 and am the dean of the Arts and Sciences Division again.
In my free time I lift weights, garden, jog, compete in short triathlons, compete in Masters Swimming meets, and write short stories and poetry. I teach English and humanities.
If you visit "God"'s Country", call me and we will get together and reminisce.
