Ken's Story

My, my, since graduating Bluford High School class of 1973 much has happened in life. Lacquita and I have two children and four grandchildren. For several years I worked for General Tire in Mt. Vernon, but in 1988 as I was driving to work something happened that supernaturally and radically changed my life forever. I met Jesus Christ, He saved me and I was born again. Jesus instantly took away the alcohol, gave me a new vocabulary, forgave my many sins and unbelief in Him, and He gave me peace with God. About three years after being converted God called me to preach the Gospel. I pastored churches in Southern Illinois, East Central Kentucky, Western Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri. During one of my pastorates in Southern Illinois I graduated class of 2000 from Mid-Continent Baptist Bible College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies. God allowed me to serve churches as a pastor bi-vocationally and full time. As a bi-vocational pastor I worked for the US Postal Service, as a substitute school teacher, and as a High School para-professional In School Suspension teacher. In 2011 the Lord moved us to Southeast Missouri. Sho...Expand for more
rtly after our move I began working as a Hospice Chaplain, a ministry I enjoyed for 9 1/2 years. While ministering as a Chaplain I was also the part time pastor Calvary Baptist, the greatest little church in Southeast Missouri. In July 2018 I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer with enlarged lymph nodes. After chemo and radiation therapy, then a second round of chemo it was determined that I was in remission. Being healed from cancer was a miracle from God and by the grace of the Lord God I am still in remission. Cancer, radiation, and especially the chemo did take a physical toll. In November of 2020 I informed the Hospice I worked for and the church I pastored that I was retiring. At the end of November 2020 Lacquita and I moved to Foley, Alabama to enjoy retirement. I still preach occasionally and minister as a Chaplain for the residents in the subdivision were we live. Our home is located 13 miles from Gulf Shores Beach. We enjoy sitting on the white sand beach watching and listening to the waves roll in. God is, and has been, good to us. I have not regretted one second of being a child of God. Daily I thank God for saving me.
