Kenneth G's Story
Life
Married to Peggy Ann Halsema, a nurse. 4 children: Kristy, Holly, Sandy and Max. Sold for Monroe Div. of Litton Industries & Burroughs Corp. before becoming a manufacturers' representative in 1979. Currently own Midstates Marketing, Inc. Sell primarily in the Midwest, but do 1 line nationally. Main focus for decades was electronic components, but morphed into anti-static & Cleanroom EVERYTHING. Have been very active in Boy Scouts again when my son joined, and have served in MANY positions. Bought the home I grew up in, though our farm was sold & became Whispering Pines. Though our kids have moved out, you’re always a parent.
College
Because I intended to be an inorganic research chemist, I was in the Honors Chemistry program at the Purdue Extension/IUPUI for the 1969-70 year. Then I moved to W. Lafayette to attend Purdue University. After my 3rd semester, I switched into the Krannert School of Business. In the Fall of '72, I took time out to go to the Munich Olympics & Europe for 2 1/2 months, and then attended classes at IUPUI because my mother had cancer. After she died, I returned to the main Purdue campus to graduate in May of 1974 with a B.S. General Management degree, majoring in Marketing and minoring in German. Since then, I have had several sales-oriented classes--the Xerox Professional Selling Skills Course, The Lee DuBois Sales Course, and the Dale Carnegie Sales Course...not to mention many specialized trainings by the companies I sell for.
Workplace

oftware, and a LOT more. I like the challenge of getting the sale, the freedom & flexibility of the salesman's life, and being able to increase my own income directly.
For the Monroe Div. of Litton Ind's. I started in 1974 in Evansville, IN and then took over a sub-office in Paducah, KY, selling computing equipment. After a year and a half with them, I was moved back to Indianapolis by the Burroughs Corp. where I sold computer mainframes for the Large Accounts branch. I then went in 1979 with Jack Harvey Associates as a manufacturers' representative selling electronic components for 3 years before joining my father at Midstates Marketing in Oct.,1982 where I've been ever since, and am now the President/owner.
Had a “close call” accident in 2008, rolling a Dodge Caravan at interstate speed on I-69. Decided I wanted to try a career where people come to ME. Was an Edward Jones Financial Advisor in Cumberland for a little over 2 years. Contacted 3,015 people and found it difficult to get an adequate portfolio of clients, so took over Midstates Marketing again from Peggy who was the short-term president.
During part of my free time, I've done all sorts of activities with the kids: assistant coach in sports, involved parent re: the choir, theatre, orchestra, band, Girl Scout assistant, Cub Scout Den Leader, Boy Scout Scoutmaster, Venture Scout Advisor, Firecrafter Advisor, Scouting For Food council coordinator, Camp Belzer centennial photographer, “countless” committees, etc. Now that Peg retired as an R.N., our focus is travel & family.
