Kenold (Kenny)'s Story
Hello, I'm going to have to edit my dates at Washington, because I actually attended Fremont in the 10th grade and came to Washington in 1961/Sept.
Think about it our class of June 63 had more than 600 students. We thought we knew almost everybody but in fact we may have known 20%? That is what caused me to join Classmates, I want to find the few people I actually knew or was acquainted with.
Many of us went our own way after High School and then 45 + years goes by and you wonder "why did I let myself loose contact with some of the most important people in my life, my JR HIGH & HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS,associates & acquaintances???" Oh well, its never too late to get things right!
After Washington I went to Harbor Jr College were I became totally absorbed into the Civil & Human Rights Movement. Before I knew it I was out marching & demonstrating for the "Rumford Fair Housing Act" At the same time Bill Spiller & I and about a dozen other students decided to get Gloria Rhinehart, a beautifull woman who happened to be Black, elected "HOME COMMING QUEEN"...Expand for more
(the Queen was determined by a campus general election) In those day's there where few Blacks, Latinos or Asians attending Harbor College. !! WE WON!!!
Since then I have spent my entire life in the RIGHTS & JUSTICE MOVEMENT. Civil Rights, Black & Chicano Power and Women's Rights. For the last thirty years (because of CESAR CHAVEZ) I have been in the Labor movement.
With Cesar's direction & assistance and along with my wife, Fahari Jeffers,Greg Akili,Raquel Beltran, Ann Lotridge, I founded the "UNITED DOMESTIC WORKERS OF AMERICA" The first labor union for and by Domestic Workers in American history. (that lasted more than two years.)
Thoughout this journey I have been fortunate to meet, work with, and learn from many of the luminaries of or time.
Finally, for now and without any plan to do so,I came to adopt several Kids all at one time. Luckily my CHILDREN from a previous marriage and my adopted CHILDREN got along fine, grew up together and are still a family.
Thanks for listening, Kenny Seaton-Msemaji. (I was given the Swahili name in 1965)
