Kerrie's Story
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta my schools were Belfast Elementary, Sir John Franklin Junior High, and Crescent Heights High School. I left Calgary in 1981 to return to school moving to Prince George, BC to attend the College of New Caledonia and then to Burnaby to finish my Criminology degree at Simon Fraser University. I was hired by BC Corrections Jan 28, 1985 in PG and transferred to Terrace, BC later that year to work as a Youth/Adult Probation Officer, Parole Officer, Family Court Counsellor and in 1987 became a Local Director. Eventually I was responsible from Kitimat to the Yukon Boarder and the Nass Valley to Burns Lake. In 1989 I met my husband in March and we were married in September. We lived in Terrace until 2003 when I took on Local Director position in Kamloops and later that year we moved to Chilliwack to do the same.
In 2008, we moved to Sooke BC in my new role as a Project Manager at Headquarters in Victoria. With the Sooke municipal election in November 2011, I decided to run for Council and was successful and was re-elected in November 2014. On December 22, 2015 I worked my last day for BC Corrections and officially retired May 1, 2016 after 31 years.

r 2017 I returned to work for the Federal Government. with the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls as the lead Statement Gatherer. and then Registry Officer Coordinator until completion of the Inquiry at the end of June 2019. In July 2020 I accepted a position with the Addressing Racism; an Independent Investigation into Indigenous Specific Racism and Discrimination in the BC Health Care system, it's a privilege to work with Mary-Ellen Turpel-Lafond.
My husband and I have made our family by rescuing pups and kittens. Gone over the Rainbow Bridge, Mister (14yrs lab/retriever cross), Walker (14yrs husky/malamute), Cromwell (11yrs English Mastiff but not a rescue) and Dana (16yrs collie cross that we took in when she was 14). Our fury family has recently lost our two kitties Masset (18) in 2017, Charlotte (16) in 2018 and on October 13, 2020 our big guy Loxley left us suddenly; we are heartbroken with the loss of our furry family. I'm on Facebook as Kerrie Deines Reay and Kerrie Reay on Twitter. I have thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with friends from school.
One of my favorite quotes is: "Be the change that you want to see in the world."
