Kerry's Story
For those from Polytech coming to my page, I went to your school 72 to 73 in 10th grade and was supposed to start my junior year there, but my parents decided to come back to NC. I did my junior and senior year at North Mecklenburg High in Huntersville, NC and graduated from there. I had went to Alexander Junior High with many at North Mecklenburg, before we moved to California.
I am mother of 3, step-mother to two (we lost one in November of 2009) and grandmother to 11. I was a Adjunct Professor for Gardner-Webb University (GOAL Program) until June, 2014 when they told me they did not have enough face-to-face classes for me and still not back yet. I live in Mount Holly, NC for this point in my life. I love spending time with my family, when that can happen! My husband of 24 years was diagnosed with leukemia in September of 2009 and passed away on March 27, 2012. I have been blessed to find love again and my sweet and wonderful man is David Allen. I stay busy, but try hard to make the most of my free time! Hope to catch up with my old friends and classmates here, on Facebook, and at the reunions! I am trying to keep a job until I retire, but it is most difficult for sure! Don't think the aging population is much needed in today's workforce!
Answering Story Wizard Questions:
I hope old friend remember me as a good friend. A fair and caring friend.
I always wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. My family and friend thought that was a high idea. As it turns out, they may have been right. I am almost a doctor, just not the medical kind!
I am pretty even tempered. I occasionally just blow up, but not often.
The wildest thing I ever did in school was to skip class with Charlotte, Cheri, and Deb and take off for the lake. That was not in my character! But I needed time to live a more adventurous life with them! It added to my character and I have life long friends in them.
My inspiration has to have come from some of the most amazing teachers I had through out my life. My most influential was Mrs. Harry of Alexander Junior High, Ms. Lycon of Alexander Junior High, and Mrs. Tucker of Pacoima Junior High in California.
I have lived in NC, VA, NY, and CA. I moved during my childhood because my parents moved. I have moved to VA as an adult to take my sick husband to VA to be near family a few years b...Expand for more

The one person from my past I would like to see - no way, I want to see everyone because it would be lots of fun!
Lately, my obsession has been Facebook! And the new wonderful man in my life, Mr. David Allen, of Mount Holly, NC. I am the most blessed woman!
If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to charity or my church, then spend the rest on family, set up some fund for struggling students with families, and use what is left to end the rest of my life in style!!
My current age is 58. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely wrong!
Worked hard my whole life...looking forward to retirement one day!
First crush---not a thing!
My best friend would tell you I'm talkative, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet.
Don't dress like I used too. Still like jeans, but pay a little more for them now. Dress more for comfort now!
I would not change a thing in my life. It has been all the ups and downs that has brought me where I am now! I have no problem with who I am and am comfortable with myself!
In 10 years, I hope to be traveling and if we have enough to have another reunion at NMHS maybe be there!
I have a few oldest friends. I met Ameta Wiley (Starkey), Doris Oehler (Dixon), and Doris Privette (passed). We were all friends and classmates at Derita Elementary School and lived near each other in the Mallard Creek area. In High School I spent time with Cheri Kiker (Moore), Deb Latham (Tucker), Charlotte McGraw (Fisher) and Barbara Lovelace! I really don't know what drew us all together and not sure that we were a group, but they were all more of friends to me one on one. I think personalities played a great deal in it as well! We had some great times!
I don't think there is anything surprising about me!
My first job was a print shop in California and I got paid $1.85 to stack and cut printed orders. What I remembered most was the feeling of pride over working and having my own money! Presently I have been out of work, more than I have had work. I have a MBA, but I think no one wants me at my age now!
I have so many memories of my childhood that I know I will never forget. Times with my friends, times with family, times in school! So that would be hard to share them all! Just a wonderful life, full of blessings!
