Keven's Story

Life Married my wife Judy, Oct 18,1986 after dating for 5 year. You know, wanted to make sure. We have no kids except for our 4 legged kids. Not that we didn't try. I got lucky an was able to retire from the Ann Arbor Fire Department in July of 2002 as a Fire Inspector/ Fire Investigator. I have 30+ years in the fire department between the Brighton Fire Department, 4 years in the U.S. Air Force Fire Department. I worked for the Navy as a civilian firefighter at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois, and my time in Ann Arbor. Judy is still working for a Bank in Ann Arbor with 32+ years in. My mother & sister live on the property. My sister is retired military and Mom is a retired Brighton School bus driver. Dad died in December of 1986. We soon will put our home on 38 acres up for sale. When it sells Judy will retire and we will build just north of Tucson in Saddlebrook an active adult community. We had so many plans for our present property but I got sick just prior to my planned retirement. It really limited a lot of my activity. We use to camp with a group of our friends several times a year. Not able to do that any more. Can't hardly keep up with the property maintence either, so there the reason for the sale. We have been able to travel though. We spent 2 weeks on a Alaska Land & sea cruise. It was great. Just undescribable. We have done a lot of traveling the last few years, especially the Vegas area and all around Arizona. We were checking out the areas to move to. We plan on doing alot more traveling after we get out there and settled. All and all I think I have been pretty lucky with my life for someone who never gave it any thought of what I wanted to do for a living. Joining the Air Force was probably the smartest thing I ever did. It gave me discipline and I found something that I like to do and I was really good ...Expand for more
at. It gave me a reason for wanting to learn. To go back to school. Being in the air force also helped me get a great job and be able to retire early. I also found someone that would put up with me and most importantly, I could trust. 08/26/2010 update: 2010 so far has been a sucky year. Lost a friend back in February from cancer & didn't know he was sick. Made the funeral but damn, you miss out on a lot when your far from your friends & on pain meds 24/7. Lost my Mom on Jun17th at my sisters home next door. That's rough, even when you know she isn't suffering anymore. A few days later another friend that Leo Felty & I knew from the AA Moose Sportsmans passed due to cancer. Great guy that made Leo & I feel right a home when we were new members. We would shoot trap (12 gauge shotgun sport) almost every Sunday & goes back into the 80s. Cook was a great guy. Then while Judy & I were in Arizona/Vegas for 2 weeks we missed Cook's memorial, worse, 3rd day on our trip one of my Best Friends calls to tell me another Best Friend killed himself, no note no known reason. Just a great person & a best Best Friend that snapped on that day. There was no way we could come back because Priceline, the airlines, and our time share on short notice already forgave us when Mom started to get sick in May. Plus our business in Vegas had to get done, so we missed my best friends funeral. It was propably for the best, I would have been a basket case. We had to stay in Vegas an xtra day because I couldn't drive. I think I took this harder then loosing my mother, I guess maybe because mom was in a lot of pain an 90 yrs, hearing gone, eyesight going. Since we been back both of us have made 1 trip each to the Chelsea Hospital ER, 1 day after the other. Know the housing market is at it's worse then it's ever been. Little scared to see what the rest of 2010 brings.
