Kevin's Story
Life
My job is workaday -- I keep computer systems working and create new ones.
I used to live in the poor artists part of Bloomington, and have some great friends that hang out, play music, hike, bicycle, watch movies and stars together. Pretty happy life!
I recently broke up with my partner of 11 years. We're trying to figure out how to remain friends, doing pretty well so far.
I've bought a house not far from downtown, and am slowly settling in, trying to keep the living space clean and neat, and organize the rest comfortably. I like that the yard has pines and an oak, which reminds me of growing up.
School
It's odd how vivid some HS memories are, and how lost others. I spent most of my HS days as a band geek, so Sensenbaugh, Bondi, and Pavell were a big part of the experience. Masty, Mull, Kellstrom, and.. shoot, my mind is going... our writing teacher who retired into a life of political work, and was truly and inspirational teacher... I'll edit him i...Expand for more
n later.
I was too straight. I was anti-cool, so whatever the rest of you were doing... I missed out.
But, being in music I learned concentration skills and habits that helped in college and in my work. I rarely play any more, but I'm friends with a bunch of musicians and work on their web pages and take photos to try to support people who are braver than I was (making livings as musicans and artists).
I learned that you can get individual attention and bend a bureacracy around to your needs, this also helped me at IU, a huge school, but where some of my profs from thne 1980s are still friends.
Remember the jungle smell of the jungle hall?
I remember making music, especially the jazz band (because we worked more closely together), as the best thing about school. Friends, growing, learning so much were all good. I remember going to school in the wee hours with the cross country team, to practice or work on homework in the bandroom before anyone else arrived.
