Kevin's Story
Life
Connie (Ertenberg) and I were married 'till 1983. We had two terrific boys, Jake (now a lawyer) and Chad, a salesman. Sadly, we divorced around 1980. My wife, Patricia,(married in 1985) is from Concord. She teaches special ed at Plymouth High School. Pat and I have three kids (all boys) together.
Four of my kids have graduated from college (one from UNH, three from Wentworth Institute). One son (Jacob) went on to law school at Boston College.
I work at Dartmouth College. I'm an instructor in the Thayer School of Engineering and I operate the student machine shop.
College
After high school graduation in 1968 I went to St. Anselm College in Manchester. At the time I was envious of friends and family attending larger schools where war protests, and student unrest were always in the news. I worked while going to college and I married my high school sweetheart in my junior year at St. A's. My dad died in an accident 2 weeks before the wedding. I quit college to join my ...Expand for more
brother in the family machine shop.
In 1989 I got a job as part of a team teaching "Introduction to Manufacturing" at MIT and began taking courses at the Harvard Extension School. This school is the single best reason for Harvard's reputation as the world's greatest University. I finally graduated in 2002. The motive for returning to college was to increase competence in my work. I could be more effective with some formal instruction. At Saint A's I learned that there are a lot of smart people in the world. At Harvard I learned to be grateful for them. Thank-you St. A's and Thank-you Harvard.
When I married Pat I later learned that I had married a woman who could tell the future. Returning from work one evening she said "this will be your last year at MIT, I'm not going to raise our kids in Boston." And so it was... I left MIT but eventually fell into a teaching role at the engineering school at Dartmouth College - a wonderful school and much nicer neighborhood.
Lucky me.
