Life
Sergeant Kevin L. Cooper is the Operations Superintendent, 2d Space Operations Squadron, Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. Sergeant Cooper is a native of Lakewood, California, and received his Graduation Equivilency Diploma from Artesia High School in 1981. Sergeant Cooper entered the Air Force in January 1982. He completed basic military training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He completed the Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Technician course at Chanute AFB, Illinois. His first assignment was to the 47 Field Maintenance Squadron, Laughlin AFB, Texas, as an Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) technician. He was then reassigned to 39 Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Incirlik AB, Turkey, in December 1985 where he worked as a Quality Assurance inspector. In December 1988, he was reassigned to the 93 Field Maintenance Squadron, Castle AFB, California. There he performed as the Power Generation Crew Leader responsible for eight technicians and over 138 pieces of power generation equipment. In August 1991, Sergeant Cooper was reassigned to the 606 Air Control Squadron, Basdahl, Germany. There he served as the AGE Flight Chief in a highly mobilized unit. He was responsible for 25 technicians and over 38 generator sets providing electrical power necessary to support air control operations while in a field deployed configuration. In January 1995 until October 1995, Sergeant Cooper transferred to the 52 Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Spangdahlem AB, Germany where he was swing shift supervisor for four unique and distinctive Combat AGE Teams consisting of over 80 technicians. Upon completion of his tour in October 1995, Sergeant Cooper was transferred to the 7 Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Dyess AFB, Texas. He earned a position as the Squadron Production Superintendent. irect support of 41 B-1 bombers and 39 C-130 cargo aircraft. In January 1999, Sergeant Cooper cross-trained into the 1C6 career field as part of the Air ForceÂs Enlisted Force Balancing initiative. He completed Enlisted Space Operator training and Initial Qualification training at Vandenberg AFB, California. He was then assigned to the 2nd Space Operations Squadron where he mission certified in the Satellite Systems Operator position and the Space Systems Crew Chief position. In February 2000, he advanced to the Operations Flight Chief position. There he directed operations of the $2.4B Global Positioning System, the DoDÂs largest military constellation comprised of 29 on-orbit satellites and a $300M ground operations system. Once again, in January 2001, Sergeant Cooper advanced to his current duty position as the Operations Superintendent where he continued to excel. He earned wing wide recognition as the 50th SW SNCO of the Quarter for 1st quarter 2001.
His education includes Associate of Applied Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force in Aerospace Ground Equipment Technology earned in 1989, two Associate in Arts degrees earned in 1993 and 1995, and an Applied Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force in Air and Space Systems Technology earned in 2001. He received a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies degree with a History minor from University of Maryland in 1998, and a Masters of Health Sciences degree in Emergency & Disaster Management from Touro International University in 2003. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters. Sergeant Cooper is married his lovely wife Michele and is the proud father of two sons, Kenneth and Christopher, a two daughters Sara and Alison.
