Kevin's Story

Hello everyone, I have a lot of great memories of High School. If you stop by dont be afraid to say HI. Heres a short version of my life since High School...After graduation in 1982 I joined the Marine Corps and was trained as an Air Craft Structural Mechanic and Painter. During my tour in the Marine Corps I cross trained into flight controls, hydraulics, composites and more. I obtained my Air Frames and Power Plant (A&P) License and I was assigned to the A-4 Attack Fighter Squadron. We also had the CH-53 Cargo Helicopter. Going along for a ride on a CH-53 with the rear cargo ramp open and the only thing holding you inside is a body harness while the pilot thrusts us into a max climb and we're standing at the edge of the ramp not holding onto anything and without parachutes is quite a rush to say the least. Also during my service in the Marines, I had the pleasure of traveling the world being fortunate to have visited 11 countries. Around the world I have rock climbed without rope (free climbing) up near to 2000 foot high cliffs, hang gliding, motor crossing, male exotic dancer/stripper, scuba diving off the shores of California, Florida, Japan, Okanawa where in different areas at different times have encountered Manta Rays with 18 foot wing spans, barracuda as big as I am, Once a roughly 9 foot long black tipped sharks fin hit me across the chest. Once while diving I found myself in the middle of a school of jelly fish...and NO, I didnt die LOL. One time while snorkeling in shallow clear water, I came across a wallet and of course thought WOW...MONEY!!! when I looked inside yep sure enough I found about $80.00 in cash but when I saw the drivers license I discovered I had found my own wallet LOL. I forgot to take it out of my pocket and was lucky I didnt lose it. Traveling over seas while serving put me in contact with other things like the black market. I never cared for the purchasing and selling of goods since I didnt like the idea alot of it was stolen. But I was interested in the under world of fighting and since I am a black belt in tea kwon do, Judo and Combat Ninjitsu It was right up my alley. There were no real rules and no gloves or protective gear, a few guide lines were followed so it was a genuine thrill each time you step up and you dont know who or what is going to be opposing you with each fight and they fight using every dirty trick in the book. Such wonderful memories! LOL At the end of my tour in the Marine Corps, I had my A&P License and being young and single I wanted a discharge and then to later reinlist because I could make a lot more money as a civilian Air Craft Mechanic for about 1.5 years to build up a nice little nest egg of cash and then reinlist and continue my career in the Marines. I got out and worked in Orlando, Florida with Page Avjet as an A&P Mechanic. I lived in a small efficiency apartment and to scrimp and save as much as I could, I went without electricity meaning I had no hot water, no air conditioning, no lights, no refrigerator. I had no furniture and...Expand for more
I slept on a $1.99 blow up mattress from Wal-Mart, I ate pork-n-beans, and other foods that didnt have to be kept cold. But I still had to bathe and wash my clothes right?! Heres what I did and remember, Im pinching pennies to save up as much money as I can...I worked second shift so I got home around 12:30 every night, my apartment complex had an out door pool. I would keep my clothes on but empty my pockets, and with a bottle of dish washing liquid, I would go for a quiet swim and wash myself and my clothes at the same time. Then during the day as I layed out by the pool-side tanning, I could hear the pool guys complain as they try to figure out why the PH and other levels are off and what is that suddsy looking stuff :-) Later I was accepted to work further south in Jupiter, Florida at Sikorsky Aircraft for more money. Most of the time weather permitting, the hanger doors would be open and on occasion, an Aligator would slowly walk through the hanger. Usually the first to see it coming would casually announce " Gator!" aloud so everyone could stay out of its way. We'd call the authorities and they would guide the gator off the premises. After building up a nice little nest egg of cash for future family plans I tried to reinlist into the Marine Corps. Unknown to me, while I was out the Marine Corps phased out my Job. Strange rule but because I was prior service, they would not let me reinlist laterally either. for years until I was too old to reinlist, I wrote letters to all Marine Corps and Government offices asking for their help. While I continued to try and reinlist, I moved back to Ohio to be near my mother and sister and I lived for a while in Mansfield where I joined the Air National Guard to further my aeronautical training. I trained as an F-16 Electrical and Environmental Systems Specialist. During Tech. School in Rantual Illinois is where I met my first wife who was active duty Air Force. Over the next 12 years she and I had two beautiful children, our daughter Melissa and son Timothy. Our last duty station where we divorced in 2005 was Anchorage Alaska. Alaska Is a beautiful place to visit and one of the best jobs I have ever had was there. I managed the service dept servicing jacuzzis, spas, pools etc. It is also the only job I have ever had outside the military that I strapped on a Smith and Wesson .44 Mag hand gun with armor piercing rounds for work everyday. Thats because of the free roaming wild Moose and Bear. I've had a number of close calls with them and am happy to say I have never had to shoot one. Then I met my second wife. She and her daughter came to live with my kids and I in Alaska before we all moved back to Ohio. Years later Im now single again and am in no hurry to tie the knot at least until my youngest graduates high school and starts his life out on his own. Lately I have been wanting a career change...do something different. So Im concidering getting more college or maybe a training program etc. I'll have to see whats out there. Best wishes to all!!!
