Kevin's Story

Life Graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1980 with a BS in Art Education. Prior to that, in 1975 I was privileged to have marched a season with the Charioteers Drum and Bugle Corps (played bass baritone bugle). Worked a variety of jobs over the years: cottage supervisor at a home for emotionally disturbed teenagers, archaeological surveyor, visual merchandising, advertising, computer operations, financial securities associate for Wachovia and others. Jack of all trades, master of none. I've worked for Performance Inc. (the largest mail order bike company in the country) since 1999 after moving to North Carolina to get married to another Huffman High graduate (Terry Patrickis/ 1976, first and only marriage for both of us). Prior to my move to NC I lived in Richmond, VA, for about 12 years with a stint in Alexandria, VA, from 1990 to 1993 teaching middle school art for Fairfax County Public Schools. I won't teach again but I was extremely proud to have been a teacher and I had a lot of great students. And although I moved away from Birmingham in 1985 I still consider myself an Alabama native (although I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah). One person that I worked with in Richmond, VA couldn't believe that a person from Alabama (myself) would be going to the opera and enjoying it ("Hey man, I grew up in the city, and I've listened to classical music since I was five"). My Mom and brother, Eric, still live ...Expand for more
in Birmingham but my sister, Alice Anne, has been living in Japan since 1985 after moving there and later getting married and having two sons. One of my passions is cycling which I took up in 1988. (I never thought I would ever own a $2000 bike.)In the Fall of 2005, my brother decided that I should play a bass guitar (I mentioned once that maybe a bass would be an interesting stringed instrument to learn so he gave me one for Christmas) so I now own a beautiful Michael Kelly Phoenix acoustic/electric bass which I have been practicing. (shown in profile photo dated 6/27/2007) And though I haven't played my flute seriously since 1974, I have become quite proficient with modern recorders (mostly romance era music.)I only play for my own enjoyment. Terry got her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alabama and Masters in Flute Performance from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, has a private flute studio and also performs professionally.(She's way ahead of me on flute now. I'm not even close). Terry and I like to travel when we can. Prior to getting married I went to Japan 5 times, and visited Hungary, Yugoslavia and Korea. Terry and I have since traveled to Canada, France, Belgium, and Italy. We have two wonderful cats, Lilly and Iris. My own beloved cat, Theunisse, passed away in February, 2007 after being with me for 17 and 1/2 years. Please feel free to contact me or Terry through this site.
