Thoughts:
Can anyone believe we had a smoking courtyard in school? I think you weren't legal for tobacco until the age of 18.
After over 2 decades of military food, MREs, and numerous cases of food poisoning I still remember vividly some of the items that were on my tray at lunch time. The most incredible part is I ate that stuff, especially the "pizza" burgers.
Great big walls of glass and no air conditioning. HOT!
The student parking lot full of crappy old cars. Now they are classics.
The nice Spanish teacher that fervently wanted me to talk with the "correct" accent. hahahahhaaha. I've lived in South Texas, Puerto Rico, and now in Arizona. Heck Puerto Ricans and "border" Mexicans can't speak Spanish to each other. Whatever ...
I thought algebra was useless. I thought, for sure, this class will never help me. Three years later I get promoted partially because I could do algebra. Not whatever..
One working pay phone in the gym for all to share. One day I went to make a call and 3
"overseas" students were standing at the phone with what should be about ...Expand for more
$300.00 in quarters. They filled the phone full of quarters until it jammed the switch inside. Then they could talk to the middle east for hours. Next year at Christmass I called Oxon Hill from Naples, Italy. Twenty bucks a minute up front before you call and if your connection drops too bad. I guess $300.00 or so was cheap if not somewhat illegal.
Getting pulled over in a little speed trap in the neighborhood at the end of a school day.The police sure showed those kids! The first person in our little line was the Vice P. the next was a plain clothed cop, 2 teachers, myself, and the last car had another teacher as it's driver. As far as I know no HS students were caught but myself. The ticket was for an averaged speed of 37 in a 25. At least I was in good company and yes I went to court.
The young ladies back in the day (1976-1979) smelled clean with maybe a hint of some perfume. A few overdid it but all in all not that many. Have you been in a HS lately with these modern girls? I've been teargassed and it was less toxic than combination of body sprays and lotions that is going on now with these young women. The girls today that don't smell like a noxious fruit explosion are the "goth" girls. geeesh
I looked in my yearbook and the teachers look so much younger than I remember. Now I just won't look in the mirror for a while.
The musical people that would sing and play for other students. That took some strength of character. Most weren't that great but I enjoyed the performances and am glad they did it.
